Good to hear SA will stick to writing with Jack - they've got something special.
Also interesting to read about Journey's inner mechanics and the dynamic of working within the group.
Not surprised to read that the Generations-era was a period of stagnation.
Neal didn't care and it showed.

Nice interview. Thanks for posting it.

I'm really looking forward to this part:

JRUK - Do you plan to tour Skyscraper or your solo release in the US and Europe?

Steve - To be announced, although Jack and I are presently lining up a few acoustic shows until then.

He needs to do a solo album in the vein of Kiss Me Softly. I love the lower texture of his voice and he would shine on more of a pop/r&b/blusey type vibe solo album.

He must have felt a lot of pressure joining the band. They started from scratch with their touring with a new singer and really worked hard building up their fanbase again with Steve Augeri and going from smaller venues and eventually larger and larger venues after many years of hard work on the road. I wouldn't wish that kind of pressure on anyone following in Steve Perry's shadow with a lot riding on your voice and delivery at concerts and winning over fans. So I can see his point, they were trying to capitalize on their success each year by touring, and so you keep quiet when you know you're having vocal problems, trying to be a team player. But towards the end, the last few years, he should have taken a step back and been firm and straightforward about it. But at his age, his voice couldn't continue holding up to Journey songs touring anyway.
Glad to see he got his voice back so he can follow his passion with music and looking forward to a solo album. 8)

The insight about writing with Jon and Neal is very telling. If you don't bring your A-game, don't bother showing up.

That is his wheelhouse.

I can't link to it, but I swear in a mini interview after Arrival was released Schon said something to the extent of thats the type of song Augeri should sing in the future when talking about Kiss Me Softly....and it made me question if he were going to continue with Journey 2002 and beyond.

Augeri knew for years that Journey was going nowhere, and even mentioned that Neal was getting bored with Journey material. How does that make it easier for your band, let a lone a lead singer with vocal problems that knew he was doomed when it was all said and done, and expect to go out and tour the world with positive feed back? Judging from the interview, Augeri knew the wrongs and right of the situation and was willing to take one for the team to clear the path for the future, and he is defiantly sick of talking about it with the mention of "Skyscraper, Skyscraper, Skyscraper."

I hope I get the privileged to see S.A live one day.
