That's really sad. She's been around a long time. My wife is a big fan of hers.

I always thought the Golden Girls were the american equivalent of LOSW.

I thought GG was hilarious. Too bad; she was a great talent. It hasn't been long since Estelle Getty's death, either. I hadn't followed any of Bea's work since GG, but if she's anything like Betty White, she only improved with age.

I think the First time I saw her, she was on All in the family. I think she played Edith's gay sister.

No, she played Maude - the show was a spinoff from All in the Family. I loved The Golden Girls and have several seasons on DVD. It was a classic comedy and I wish someone would create another great show like this. I'm really sad to hear Bea Arthur has passed away.

I really liked her work. She didn't find fame until she hit 50. And boy she made the best of it.

May she rest in peace.

Okay, she played Edith's liberal cousin Maude on an two episodes of All in the Family, the first being in Dec 1971. She then starred in the Spinoff show Maude first airing in 1972.

And then Maude's maid "Florida" was spun off into the series "Good Times".

In memory of Bea, the opening theme songs to Maude and Golden Girls:

Be honest. Did you make a habit of watching it with Barry Manilow playing softly in the background?

Before Farrah, I had a sweet Adrienne Barbeau poster on my wall in the 70's (she played Bea's daughter on "Maude"). Sweet Jesus, just look at that cleavage!

But before Rose was a dipshit on Golden Girls, she was the one who put out on Mary Tyler Moore. :D

I loved the show too. It's the only program on Lifetime that I can stomach.
