I don't know. I hate change. I liked the black background with the orange on the original one. Easy for me to check in on the main page for new posts and log off. If it's harder for me to do that, I won't check as much. What's impressive is the the AP fan site has almost 6,000 members after being in operation only about nine months.

Lots of much needed improvements, but many things I will miss as well. Overall, I'm very glad the forum has a more familiar feel (and especially a quoting function), and also glad that people have no choice but to sign in to chat because it will put an end to much of the troublemaking that goes on. On the other hand, I'll really miss the social networking aspect of it with the personal pages. I've already copied out the blog on my trip I was working on, and will find something else to do with it.

I'm really glad of one thing for sure... they found a way to preserve the "plok" sound from Chatango, so there is something familiar to start off with. :)

Thank you Lula. I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees that there is much more to this man than his stage act.

I know. They seem to have modeled the official site off of his old one, with the members having their own page, the shoutbox and such. Now, he's gone and made them look a total ass.

Seriously, they should just shutter that already tired place and just use Arnels.... it even has a FORUM.... and no rules against bashing the band!

As of this morning, the new site had only added 10 new members since the announcement that the old site will stay open. What a way to fuck over the admin who is paying out of her pocket.

I've got to get back to work with my IP Anonymizer. Only 2,990 more accounts to create.

Interesting. It really has a feel like AP is a singer who has a band that he occasionally sings with called Journey. I like the layout and and look/feel of it. But it does give off a weird vibe that isn't consistent with him being the lead singer of Journey, versus the other way around.

It's Arnel centric for sure. But when the tours start up, they post a gazillion clips of the shows and Journey is talked up a lot then. Interestingly enough, they follow and document everything he does outside of Journey in the Phillipines, but most are very vocal that his magic is with Journey and his main focus should always be on Journey.

I don't know, aren't all lead singer fan sites (separate from the band) focused on the singer? That's the only one I ever check in on. I have a feeling Perry's fan sites always focused on him by his fan club.

Are there even Perry, Augeri or JSS sites with active Forums? I don't even know.

I"m not sure. I rarely go to fan sites, if ever. You are probably right. It just stuck out to me because even with 'The Band' page, it just has their pictures w/a brief bio. No reference to Journey or anything. Not that it would be necessary I guess, but just strange. Overall nice site though.

Maybe if he ever can actively participate with the group, songwriting, melody creation and etc., the band will play a more prominent rule in his fans world. By stating that he prefers to live in the Philippines, it does give the impression that he is a hired gun, just showing up when is beckoned and left to his own devices when touring is not going on. I don't see him as a Sammy Hagar type, calling up Neal with songwriting ideas or doing some demos and saying check this stuff out, you guys want to use this for the next album?
I think he is just happy being Journey's newest member and getting a paycheck.

I don't agree with all of this. Arnel has a strong sense of purpose and that kicks into high gear when he is not touring. The Phillipines has a lot of poverty and disadvantaged children who need help with funds, food and education. His foundation that he set up to raise funds and help these people is a major priority for him. Driven by that purpose, I can see why he prefers to live in the Philippines. He could have become a self indulgent person with all the spoils of fame and fortune but he has not. He lives his life doing for others, trying to make the world a better place, being a role model. While he loves being in Journey, his heart is with helping his people. The world needs more people like him.

If Arnel would step forward and say, guys I need a charity concert for my foundation. Can we do this? The group would have to really think about it. They can't just piss him off and say no. He is their last stop. The money created from one show done by the group donating the proceeds to his charity would be more then all the side shows and donation projects that he has been doing and would give the band even more publicity. The more success he has with Journey the more he can give back to his own causes. Song writing credits alone would be something he could give to his charities. Steve Perry gave Oh Sherry royalties to his ex girlfriend just as a thank you. She has gotten about 40k a year from that ever since. Arnel could do far more for his peeps right here in the states, rather than handing out ricebowls himself in some province in the RP.

My opinion only of course.

I've worked in a Refugee camp in the Philippines, I've seen the local charities in action, and while great for photo ops, they are not accomplishing as much as they should. Make the states the homebase, get the band more involved and you will reap the rewards tenfold.
