please allow me to geek out about jeff beck. reading the previous thread about jeff beck & then the thread about dream after dream made me think of this song, "cause we've ended as lovers." it was written for jeff by stevie wonder & is on jeff's blow by blow album. i've seen tears well & lips quiver on grown men, even seasoned musicians, during this song. his playing is so emotional, he doesn't need words to convey the love & the sorrow. i'd love to hear neal do more material like this.

great playing .. but it makes me nervous that he doesnt use a pick.. strings need to be plucked by a foriegn object

to sound natural.. .. tal might need a bigger bra..

As for Beck, obviously an amazing player. I wouldn't listen to his solo albums like I would Neal's or some of my other favorite guitarists, but I'd love to see him live.

This track is the perfect showcase for Jeff's expressive style. But I still say that while nobody will be as perfect a foil for Jeff as Jan is/was, Tony Hymas and Jason Rebello are the next best thing. Jan enhanced anybody he worked with, as well as recording a string of spectacular albums on his own.

The Live @ Ronnie Scott's DVD's setlist is almost perfect. If it only had "Blue Wind" and a couple other of the Jeff/Jan pieces, that would be killer. I'm still glad "Behind The Veil" is on there. Love that one.

You sound like one of those guys who say bassists should only play with their fingers and not a plectrum.

Fingers/fingernails, thumb, pick...whatever works. I think Jeff's approach allows him to be Jeff and do things other guitarists wouldn't think of doing.

i was in a band once where someone decided for us to play Sultans of Swing.. i talked everyone out of it.. i kept thinking .. ive to PICK that solo witha pick.. you know that "sweet spot" in the end solo that is finger picked that goes triplets real fast with fingers only.. ugh..

Oh yea, I know it. I can sort of ape that part on my Strat. The tone is pure enough on its own to sound somewhat decent... when I try it on my Schecter, between the humbucker and my subpar fingerpicking technique, it sounds pretty shitty

Such a great solo and overall guitar sound on that song

yeah, that's a great set list. it still kills me that i had tickets for one of the ronnie scott's shows, but couldn't attend because i had to change my travel plans.

no, didn't get to hang with them that night. the next night, i was in the bar, at the table next to jeff, tal & john mayer, but didn't approach them. maybe i'll have something meaningful to say to jeff next time.

Thanks, cyndy I liked that. At first I thought the bass player was a guy! She looks really young, too. And, thanks for the musical family tree on the other thread about the Yardbirds. Is it my imagination or do a lot of really talented & highly respected musicians grow up together, met in school & formed a band? I'm just thinking of The Beatles and Genesis right now, but there must be more.
