Last night while watching AMERICAN IDOL, they said that the theme next week is Rock and Roll. What are the chances that Randy Jackson contacted Steve Perry to be the mentor? Just hoping :D

Perry wouldn't fall into the rock n roll category would he? I would think he would fall into pop/R+B.

About 10% chance Randy contacted steve and 5% chance steve would do it. We can always hope and pray though! :)

I don't think Perry has really established any R&B cred, although he certainly has those leanings. Rock would be the most likely genre IF it were to happen. I'm doubtful, yet very hopeful...

yep, R&B was already taken by Smokey Robinson. To the generic music world, Journey is still classified as a R&R group. Heck, Madonna was inducted into the "RnR" HOF, didn't she?

I wish I could bet piles of money on this every season. I'd have as much money as Steve.

p.s. - no he won't be on... he will be at home watching the Giants get their asses beat by the Cubbies next week!!

While I always take Steve at face value and always give him the benefit of the doubt, I can pretty much tell you he is full of shit on this one. Perry, a singer by life and career, doesn't watch TV's number one show, about singing? That's like saying The Hamburglar doesn't frequent McDonalds, or that Michael Jordan doesn't watch the NBA, or Herbie Herbert eats garden salads exclusively.

More like 100% chance Randy has tried to contact him, and a .001% chance that Perry would do it.

My excuse is that I watch it with my two daughters. Otherwise I would be way too cool to watch it.

Several times Ryan Seacrest has used the words, journey and evolution this season...do you think it means anything?  No, I don't think SP would ever make an appearance on this show...don't think he'll be making an appearance anywhere. :(

I just now played last night's Idol show backwards and I heard the words "Perry will be on Idol this year." Do you think that is a sign?

I would bet that Perry does watch Idol. It's an adiction right now. I skip it until they are down to 12. Maybe he does not want to give an opinion concerning the show, especially since people hang on his every word, so he might say he didn't watch it. It's the biggest and most successful show so far and the fame and fortune that the winners and near winners enjoy makes it a top notch reality show, imo.
To me, it's tough shit if some feel it necessary to state that they don't watch the show. It's their loss. It's like it's beneath them kinda like being seen shopping at KMart. Anyway, they probably are closet Idol watchers who pull the drapes and act like they are not home in case anyone should come by and see them watching the show.

And he never admits that he's listened to anything Journey's done since his tenure with the band...

Adam needs to do some Wheel in the Sky.

He'd nail that.

He would kill that. Love to hear him hit the high note during the guitar lead. He'd go up to it and probably above it.

He'd nail it in more ways than I would the lead singer of Lacuna Coil.

He could do the traditional arrangement, or a metal arrangement... hell...

Adam would really molest that song if he did a signature creepy acoustic version complete with incense and gypsy dancers swaying in the background. Simon would probably fall over.

I'd love to hear him do that but it's not well-known enough for the mainstream audience.

The best Journey song for him to tackle would probably be Wheel in the Sky... or maybe Separate Ways.
