The Legacy

It it just me - or does anyone else get frustrated with going to you tube and having people with broken english shit all over Steve Perry? I mean for me this is my legacy of Journey, why do I have to accept these comments?

I'm sure there are people who do thesame thing on Arnel's videos. Just don't read the comments and you'll be fine. Better yet, download all the videos in MP4 format on keepvid.com and you can watch your own playlist on Itunes.

It can get asinine, agreed. But so can the myriad of Perryheads, Loons, SPoons, and other utensils when they "shit all over" Arnel.

I mean for me this is my legacy of Journey, why do I have to accept these comments?

?

You don't have to. But it's... not just your legacy nor is it all about you.

I hear ya dude. Pisses me off to no end. I have to tell myself, it isn't Pineda himself, it's his ridiculous fans. I am sure Pineda is embarrassed big time, and frankly, should say something.

Spoken like a true fan - I just get my feathers in a ruffle...I mean I get they love AP, but man for me SP is Journey and I wish they could respect that.

I'm sure both Perry and Arnel are embarrassed at the extent their fans go to alienate the other.

I did not say it was about me, I just feel like it should not be done, I don't comment on AP on you tube, I don't feel the need to.....

Ignore it. Most of those "fans" didn't know anything about Journey, much less Steve Perry, prior to the rise of Arnel Pineda. Should Mr. Pineda leave the band these "fans" will likely leave with him, but, THE LEGACY will live on. Try to be as gracious and patient as you can, and let them have their day in the sun.

Right, but that's the thing that I'm not quite sure you're understanding. These comments aren't directed at you or your feelings for Steve Perry. Arnel fans prefer Arnel, Perry fans prefer Perry, and both are notorious for getting quite personal and quite heated.

The fact of the matter is that it takes two to perpetuate an argument, and Perry's fans are hardly guiltless. Ideally, both would stop, but that's not going to happen.

I get that - the whole loon equation - but to say that Steve Perry did not contribute to Journey is like saying that Neal can't play gutiar...ya know - I get they only see AP but who do they think co-wrote the songs he re-recorded?

Shhhh! There's no need to throw cold water on all of their irrational exuberance by recounting the fates of past Journey lead singers.

They're inept. But... once again, you have the same people here who tend to forget that "Open Arms" and "Faithfully" either originated or were created solely by Jonathan Cain.

There are factions out there who will attempt to minimize certain contributions of certain members. It requires a sense of objectivity. I personally have major issues with some of Perry's personal decisions while in the band. However, he was the major reason (not the only reason) for Journey's success and a vocalist par excellence.

Don't bother arguing with the people on Youtube. It's bad enough doing it here, but no one has a shot in hell of making either side back down.

Friga is the backbone of Journey,{more like the tailbone}

Songwriting-wise, he is. As far as being the backbone in general, I dunno. I used to think he was Schon's yes-man, but everyone says that he's actually the one who Arnel and Soto strove to please.

Arrgh - to me it sucks..I can't believe that anyone could think that SP did not have a huge part in the success of Journey - and to say so should be corrected. I understand they don't get it, but I don't have to like it.

Take it easy, Portland. You don't have to like it, but, it is what it is. No one with any credibility can actually make the claim that Perry is not significant to Journey's success (past and present). When you read those comments on YouTube, especially regarding Journey/Perry/Pineda, you really have to take them with a grain of salt. You have the advantage of knowing the bands history and legacy, those newly minted fans really don't. They're just basking in the glow of the here and now. Not to wax too philosophical here, but take solace in "knowing".

Ignore the comments. I'm a fan of both men. (primarily Perry)

I have to say that it is just the nature of the split of the band. Some will never accept Arnel, and some hate Perry. Why anyone truely hates either singer is perplexing to me, but that is their right. Won't keep me from being a fan of both. :D

It would be just like the WOF ceremony. If Perry shows up, he'll be right at the front with Neal as the 81~83 lineup will be the one associated with most of the band's fame.
By not confirming if he would show up at the WOF ceremony, that moment in a way became all about him, whether intentional or not.
