Lou Gramm is BACK!!!

Man!!! I bought Lou's new album today, and all I can say is that I was very wrong and judgemental. I posted (I think it was last year) that I thought Lou should just throw in the towel and quit performing....I was SO wrong, and I'm ashamed of myself. I've listened to his new album today, and I absolutely LOVE it.

I don't even know where to start! I'm not going to do a track-by-track review, as that's more Andrew's territory. I will say that the album starts with a bang, and there are awesome elements from just about every era of Gramm. I can honestly say that his band is every bit as good as Foreigner! If you listen to this you'll be saying "Mick who?" in no time.

The album is definitely created from his passion for the Lord and all that he's gone through, and it shines throughout. I honestly think that even an athiest could listen to this album and fall in love with it. There are some amazing keyboard/guitar riffs thoughout, and I was very impressed immediately with the diversity of the sounds. There's some awesome B-3 sounds, piano, synth, etc... and the songs range from songs that sound like "Lost In The Shadows", to Shadow King songs, to funky songs with really tight groves, to acoustic guitar and piano songs. Some of the songs have some of the biggest, baddest choirs you've ever heard!

I'm not doing this album justice with my descriptions, but if you even like Foreigner or Lou in the slightest....GO BUY THIS ALBUM IMMEDIATELY!!!

Did I mention that there are elements of Gospel in there also? I'm just sitting here amazed at everything going on with this album! It needs to be listened to a couple of times to catch everything, as there are a lot of subtle riffs and phrases layered in there in the background. "That's The Way God Planned It" has some fat B-3 organ and guitars trading off riffs towards the end, and even Rolie would have been impressed with it!

I really can't wait to read Andrew's review of this, as I think I've just found my new favorite album of the year. I just wonder if it's just me here? It's so good to have him back sounding like this! It's amazing that he's been through everything he has that he puts out an album sounding like this, yet Perry's just sitting out there.... Perry needs to get his ass in gear!

Mmmmmm...I'm a died-in-the-wool Catholic and the lyrics were really getting in the way of the rock music from the samples that ran here.

I need separation of Church and RNR, but will listen to whole tracks before deciding against buying.

Definitely sounding better, but then again this is the studio. He still sounds terrible live IMO.

He can't really hit highs anymore like "Juke Box Hero", but he can do a decent job on them. The steroids he's been on have really messed him up weight-wise. When you're that big, it's understandable to be a little winded while moving around on stage and singing live. Of course, he's also not a spring chicken anymore! Either way I was an ass for judging him like I did, and I'll support him as long as he's willing to get out there and give it his all.

I wish musicians half his age would put that much effort into their music, and I think he has a cd that he should be really proud of. This is an honest, unassuming album that clearly hasn't been augmented with pitch-correction. There are songs that his vocals seem to be just a little out of time on too (such as coming in on a few notes here or there slightly before the beat), and I like that they left it the way it is! He seems more human, and he shines through. This is definitely not an over-produced album like Hysteria, but there are some great production moments within.

Anyway...blah, blah, blah...go BUY IT!

I'm telling you...do NOT judge this off of the clips! I swear, they picked the most boring clips of each song to post. The whole album played start-to-finish is just awesome! The song "I Wanna Testify" starts out with some funk guitar that sounds like it could have been played by Prince! "So Great" is probably my favorite. It starts out with a HUGE choir that's being played in reverse almost like "Message Of Love", and the track almost has a "Lost In The Shadows" feel to it. My other favorites are "Baptized By Fire", "Redeemer", and "You Saved Me". The funny thing is, with each listen I'm liking the songs more and more! I hope you enjoy it.

He's not dissing Lou, he's dissing Andrew and his reviews.

Lou can't compare to Bruce today but in the 70s, 80s and 90s, I put Lou voice above even Perry. Not on high notes but listenability.
