I'm almost positive that I heard Judy Davis worked with Steve Perry.

A quick Google search yielded this:

Judy Davis, who trained industry legends Frank Sinatra, Janis Joplin, Barbra Streisand, Grace Slick and Jefferson Starship, The Grateful Dead, Steve Perry of Journey, members of En Vogue and a host of others.

I think I remember reading Soto worked with Perry's vocal coach a bit when he was in Journey, can't be the same one is it? I mean Eric is just a baby there and going by her age in that clip and by some of the other names she's worked in your post, I'm thinking probably not the same one??

She's dead, Deb. I think Soto and Arnel would have worked with the greatest vocal coach of them all, and Steve Perry's vocal coach, Seth Riggs. He's the greatest of our time.

This really makes you wonder about Herbie's statement that "He (Perry) went to all of the best vocal coaches in the world and there's just nothing left." Found this as well:

James Lugo
James is not only a vocal coach and producer, but a singer-songwriter and guitarist. He's trained with Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie, Steve Perry, and Gloria Estefan. James has taught The Romantics, Expose', Bay City Rollers, and artists for NBC, Universal Records, Electra, Sony, and more. He's the founder of Vocal Asylum, Rock & Pop Voice Institute in Los Angeles, CA, and the author of the book "Singers Secrets." He's a regular columnist for California Song Magazine, and was featured in Music Connection, LA Beat Magazine, and "Slam Rock." James is on the Board of Directors for Synthesis Performing Arts, Los Angeles, CA, and he's the Vice President of Production at Premier West Entertainment, Universal, CA.

Judy's comment in that clip was kinda interesting too........."today's business is so intense that the vocal chords themselves will not stand up under the pressure of performing particularly with this contemporary music." I'm surprised any of those rock vocalists, especially from the 80s, can even still sing with some of the touring schedules they had. And everybody jumps on the singers for not carrying on. They go through 10 fold more, physically, than the rest of the band.

"singers...not carrying on" isn't the problem. It's not letting others carry on with their band and its name that's the problem.

Herbie can say all he wants to about Perry having nothing left, but the man will/already has sung again, and who cares if it's not the 1980's Steve Perry. You don't have to sound like Mickey Mouse to move people.

Anyway, most pro singers will visit multiple vocal coaches and ENT/throat doctors....Most major metropolitan music hub (LA, NY, Nashville, etc) has several "best in the world" vocal coaches and ENTs.

Right on the money, Perry's later more raw, smokey vocals moved me ten times more than his early vocals. And Jeremey, for us vocally challenged folk, what is an ENT?

Edit: nevermind just got it, ear/nose/throat.....right?

There's actually a few titles they can go by since they deal with some head and neck stuff too, but yep ENT is the easiest

Perry worked with Riggs?? U sure about that? Rigg's techniques and methods seem, on the surface, to be a lot different than Perry's approach.
I wouldn't say 'the greatest' of our time. Certainly one of the most well known.
