Wow! Maybe I just dont read enough into people or read enough gossip magazines...but I didnt know Adam was gay. Not that I am judging him or anything, but asking if any of you knew this??? Watched it for the first time this week and I have to say the whole damn show is gay! I think gay is a pre-requisite to be part of the show. I bet Slash had to slam a double shot of heroin to deal with the fact that he took part!

I have a facebook and there is a pic on his site there with him and another guy kissing away...oh yeh, the tongues are in full view.

You know, I don't think anyone here has a problem with him preferring the company of men over woman (what Adam Lambert does in spare time is non of our business, but unfortunately some people like to express themselves and cram it down your throat, by making statements) Just becauce your gay, it doesn't mean you have to tell the world about it, nobody cares.

But I also just think it's the fact that he's a fruit cake when he performs, and fortunately I am not into theatrics and self indulgent trash. He is not Freddie, Halford, or any other real true rock legend who made it on their own, as Freddie and co could actually sing, but even though they were queer, at least they had masculinity about them and they are likable, and they were never self indulgent to the point you just roll your eyes in disgust.

And don't bother arguing with me in his defense, because I am not here to debate, but rather set things straight.

But seriously, I think bashing gays is one of the things from the 70s and 80s that I don't miss. It raises its head now and then, but most people have moved on from homophobia because they realized it's a waste of time to try to micro-manage the sex lives of others. Most hatred of gays is based in primitive religious laws that were created 6,000 years ago by barbaric men who lived in a day when burning people at the stake, stoning people to death, and treating women like possessions was the norm. They decided that anything that was abnormal to their current culture was sinful, and they condemned gays to hell right along with non-virgin wives and rebellious sons.

I had a friend who was gay who killed himself over the stigma attached to it. I never even knew he was gay. That changed my whole outlook on the subject.

The grass is greener on the non-bigoted side of the street. C'mon over and join us. It feels great to be able to just accept people without worrying about what they do in bed. I was raised just the opposite, so I do understand the Miss California/Jerry Falwell mentality.

Carrie Underwood is the most popular Idol ever. She's WAY prettier than Kelly and a much better singer. She's also sold more records. As of right now SHE'S the American Idol.

I like both Clarkson and Underwood - they are just different types of singers....I don't think one is better than the other, Clarkson rocks while Underwood is a counrty singer, the both have had considerable accomplishments.

You know, most reports of homophobia are pretty rampantly exaggerated. I had an openly gay kid on my college athletic team come and play for two years. Yeah, "fag" was part of our every day vocabulary and "gay" was a favored adjective to describe something unfavorable etc etc. One of your average gay rights or extreme liberal zealots would have been appalled to hear our conversations on the way home from games and such.

Anyway, this kid was not as manly as Clint Eastwood, but he wasn't flamboyant by any means. You weren't surprised to find out he was gay, per se, but it wasn't like he was completely effeminate and obvious. Anyway, we had no problems with the kid at all. I even had to share a hotel room with him once with another teammate. There was really no problem at all. He chilled with us, hung out with us etc. If there's any atmosphere for homophobia, it's the testosterone-heightened environment of sports and competition. So anyway, that's that. He's still in touch with us regularly and I still consider him a friend. I know other gays that I consider friends as well, though I haven't been as close to them as this kid.

With all that said, it doesn't mean I have to accept what they're doing as simply different from me or society or nature. Contrary to the Facebook example, identical straight behavior vs identical gay behavior is not identical at all because homosexuality is a deviant behavior, however sugarcoated you want to have it. Whatever homosexuality is caused by (I personally think most are born with genetic predisposition and a few choose), it is NOT NATURAL. Consider this: What would happen if every last man and woman on earth turned gay? No, please don't say "artificial insemination" you bleeding hearts. I don't have to like the parades, the constant overtures for me to affirm for them that it's ok, and the absurd notion of trying to change the definition of the word "marriage" (the key elements: man AND woman). Ok, I see what you specifically mean... I read it the other way, because that happens a lot, where people take offense at the mere act of being open about it, whether there's a statement attached or not.

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I get a little tired of the cheerleading as well sometimes. I feel bad for thinking that because I have a number of people close to me that are gay. One person extremely close to me used to do that a lot and sometimes I found myself thinking "oh my god, knock it off already, you're making a bigger deal of it than anyone else, the rest of us don't care who you sleep with..."

But I generally do try to ignore that stuff, because I also understand why they do that. It's along the same line of thinking as Rosa Parks sitting at the front of the bus. "This is what I am, and it doesn't make me less of a person and I'm going to make the statement until all you racists (or homophobics) STFU and MYOB and treat me like I belong, because I do." I mean, you can't really blame someone for wanting to be treated well. We all want that. Unfortunately some people have to fight hard for it, and still may not get it.

You shouldn't feel embarrassed though. That's just the point. They make you feel bad about it when there is no reason for you to - you (presumably) didn't do anything against them. Their situation is nowhere near as bad as the blacks' situation was under Jim Crow, especially today in 2009.

EDIT: And to tack on to my gay teammate anecdote, we were once drinking and we asked him how he felt about the extremely flamboyant and verbal gays. He couldn't stand them! He said they made it a lot worse for all of them.

Yeah that's cool, no worries. Yeah I know what you mean, totally. It's a tough situation, the cheerleading is annoying for a lot things, I guess not only sexuality. Yeah my original post was a bit "vague" so sorry about that! I'm glad we sorted that out.

And I guess, it really doesn't bother me as much as I make it out when I type this (who's the drama queen now?) haha, but it can get somewhat "annoying" but things could be worse. You know, of all the times I've gone to nightclubs all the blokes that got close and "friendly" on me, actually were more understanding when I politely, without being an ass about, gave them the impression this won't be working out, where appose to woman on the other hand... well! not so easy to get away from them lol, I often find it difficult unless they're pretty, then it's fine.

That's probably a pretty common feeling. I feel the same way about obnoxious, bitchy, dramatic, women. Stereotypes have to come from somewhere, but when they get applied to the whole (and I admit to stereotyping in certain cases too - I think we're all guilty of that at one time or another), and when you're one of the ones it does not apply to, like your friend says, it makes it worse for those who don't fit it.

I have two really close friends who I can very safely say don't fit the stereotypical "catty dramatic backstabbing female" stereotype. And this is exactly WHY the three of us get along so well. I just aced a person out of my life because she's that exact stereotype times 100.

gay or not, the guy can sing... BUT I could not listen to an album's worth of his voice. It's good in small doses.
