New Escape Audio Tracks

PostPosted: Mon May 11, 2009 7:44 am

OK, all, I have posted some live tracks from our gig two weeks ago on our new Escape MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/originalescape. Keep in mind that these were recorded on a video cam sitting on a table in the bar with no good view of the stage (hence "audio" and not "video"). The kick has a God-awful boom to it, and the sound guy can't mix BGV's very well (and we don't cheat with tracks - they are all live vocals). In any case, you can hear "now" Jason (and isn't that what this is really all about?). I also threw our old one-take studio demo tunes from 1993 on there.

I also posted tunes form the same gig on our Grand Illusion (Styx tribute) page at http://www.myspace.com/grandillusionrocks and our Eclipse page at http://www.myspace.com/liveeclipse. Most of these have Jason singing lead as well (I sing lead on Ah Leah).

I will continue to record upcoming shows to see if we run across a quality sound guy and can have some better tracks to post. LOL

In the meantime, enjoy.......

Paul

P.S. - See some of you on the 15th. It should rock!

Thanks! I guess when you put a period at the end, the link picks that up and craps it out.

They should be:

http://www.myspace.com/originalescape
http://www.myspace.com/grandillusionrocks
and
http://www.myspace.com/liveeclipse

Thanks!

It sounds like Jason still has it for the later Journey material! I can't wait to here what he sounds like on the earlier stuff too. I'm sure he will sound great on the older material too. Thanks for posting it.

IMHO, he REALLY excels on the earlier stuff. We have been doing the "standards" (DSB, SW, Stone, Lights/Stay, Feelin'/Any, etc.) as part of our Eclipse show, and just added these later tunes (relative to SP, of course) in the past couple of weeks.

Awesome Paul. Jason still has it. I can hear a slightly more throaty voice from him now which for the later material is a good thing. The whole band sounds great dude !! Thanks so much for posting. BTW you guys have great harmonies. That is the one thing that makes or breaks many bands and you guys sound great !!

I will be adding a few more tunes to the Eclispe page when I get to Baltimore tonight (traveling for my "real" job). Probably "Carry On Wayward Son" (Jason singing lead) and "Cold As Ice" (George singing lead). Unfortunately, it took the guy at Aces Friday a while to get things dialed in. :?

I should after Friday's show. I just started recording, and we haven't been doing the "old" stuff. We try to stick to 5 or 6 Journey songs as part of the Eclipse show, and we have been doing newer stuff to get it up to speed for the show.

Ive listened to all the songs and despite the quality you guys sound great. Interesting to hear Jason sing other stuff and nice job on your vox as well paul. You were right about Jason being SMFP JR. When he goes for high notes in the Styx songs you can hear it a little. Sound freaking awesome and that version of Crystal Ball is great.

Not quite as blown away as LD is by Jason's vox, but.... he still has the tone for sure! He doesn't have the emotion that other Journey singers have,he tends to have the same "emote" level regardless what he sings. Perhaps after a few more months he'll dial in the emotion better and at that point I think he'll be hard to beat as far Journey tribute singers go. Thanks for sharing the audio clips!

Tex, I don't think that these are his strongest SP tunes, but everyone has been begging me to post SOMETHING, so I did.

More to come that will show that he really IS the best out there. I promise! :D

LOL

I am sure that everyone has their own opinion. I have heard some other good ones, too. Well, actually, Jeremey is the only other one worth his salt. Amazing how many Journey tribs there are out there with a singer that sucks. We have one here right here in Akron.

I just think that people should hear Jason live and make up their own mind. I will tell you without a doubt that he and my friend Walt Wise (who fronts a dozen or so various tribs) are the most talented guys that I have worked with (and not just Jason's SMFP voice), along with the most humble. True "team players", and that is hard to find in a lead vocalist (even those that only think they are lead vocalists).

Ah Jim, just can't leave well enough alone, can you!

Actually, Jim's just confused... I'll leave this alone after making my point but I want to clear this up, since Jim seems to delight in propegating this invented image of me....I've always had good things to say about guys like JSS, Arnel, and yes, Jason Kelty, and these clips sound great as well. Jim and others like to paint this picture of me because I get bent out of shape when certain people say that I personally can't do things - Notice I didn't say "people say I suck," because everyone's entitled to their opinion....I mean I get bent when people say literally "Jeremey can't do that." I also get bent out of shape when people use me as a reason for saying people don't like Arnel.... Guys like JSS get a free pass when they try to defend themselves, but I get piled on, but hey, no big deal...By the way, the last thing I need to worry about is being defined by disgruntled ex bandmates. I hope people are clear on this around here.

Back to the thread at hand - I've met Jason and I've always been complimentary about him here. The clips sound really good, Paul! Hope you and the guys can make it to the House of Blues show in a couple weeks.

And regarding other tributes - I've always said Escape, Evolution, Frontiers, et al - The truly talented bands out there all create a good experience and no one should have to merit the arguments of one over another, as we're all out there doing the same thing and all recreate the music closely enough that people should enjoy going out and seeing one of their shows. Party on, Paul!

Jeremey,

Thanks for the post.

We will definitely at HOB! I haven't had the opportunity to see you since January of 2007 due to band and other conflicts.

Just so the rest of you know, Jeremey encouraged Jason and I to put Eclipse back together then. It didn't work out at the time for various reasons. I figure since there is only one Journey, one Jeremey, and one Jason, there are plenty of good shows to go around.

See you on the 22nd!

Peace,
Paul

Texafana,

Remember I have seen him live many times. He is just getting his feet wet again and as you could tell club didnt have much of a crowd which can be a real downer to the band.

Listen to the earlier clips of Escape in 94 playing to a packed club. Emoting is one of his strong points. Trust me. I can tell his is just getting in to it again because his ad-libs were mostly absent and he was sticking to what he knows.

Its obvious he still has his voice so I am sure the rest will follow. I have to say that the whole band sounds really good considering how early in the game it is.

Good work Paul !! The Styx tunes really sound awesome as well.

I have to add that Jasons vibrato is fucking killer.

I'd like to make a few points myself here...and then I'll be done.

1. You have said many negative things about Arnel, such as "yeah...anyone can sound good after 250 takes, and using Pro-tools". How is that not talking bad about him?

2. You partied with JSS and shared a stage with him at DC's while knowing that Neal and Jon were talking to you about being his replacement. Not too cool. Especially after lying about it numerous times on here.

3. You hinted around when Liquid Drummer posted old clips of Jason singing (last year I believe), that Jason probably wouldn't still have the "Voice" after all this elapsed time.

4. What have I said "Jeremey can't do", other than be 100% honest with the people in these forums?

5. You have done several of your ex-bandmates wrong...not just me. Those details will be left for a PM if you ever wish to discuss them.

6. You posted nearly an entire page of "Oh woah is me...I'm leaving this forum", yet returned. Your 1st day back, you get offended (and offensive) with Liquid Drummer who was trying to help you find another guitarist. All you had to say was thanks, but instead you insinuate that he belittled Frontiers and slammed your vocal talents...all he did was
compliment you, and try to help you.

7. You've lied and misrepresented yourself over and over on this forum (and other Forums that you got kicked off of for threatening to sue anyone who said anything negative to or about you!). Do you know how many times I've had to bite my lip every time I hear someone say "What a great family-man Jeremey is for chosing his family and not accepting Journey's offer"? Not saying that you're not a great family man, as you may be the best dad/husband in the world, but how did that phone call go again? I'd like to hear you state it again on here. Not that this is any of my business, but you keep touting that you turned down Journey's offer here AND on Myspace. Let's clear that issue up and be honest. And for the record...I've never been jealous of your time or offer with Journey. I bragged to everyone I knew at the time about how cool it must have been for you, and I'm proud that you even got the chance and opportunity. I still say you should be proud. I just think you let your pride alter your judgement on how you've recalled some of those events. I don't know if you were just too embarrased to say that they rejected you after they chose you or what?

8. You're not being "Defined by your disgruntled ex-bandmates". You're being defined by your own actions and behaviors. Did I get you kicked off of the Annex? Don't think so!

9. Am I missing anything here? As long as I'm here (which may not be long if I've burned a bridge with Andrew), I will state what I know or believe to be the truth. If I feel that you (or anyone else) is full of crap...I'm gonna call you on it. I'm not perfect by any means, and if I'm wrong...I'd expect others to call me out too!

10. it was a nice gesture of you to compliment Paul and Jason. They are awesome musicians. I asked Jason a couple of years ago if he'd be interested in a collaberation, but he wasn't interested in working on it...Sad, but I definitely understand where he was coming from. He was a very cool guy. Paul, I wish your band nothing but the best, and I think we'll be seeing some good things from your band. Keep posting those videos!

There's my $.22 worth.

Guys, if you have issue with each other you should really go PM with it since this is Eclipses thread about his band. This sounds very personal and perhaps shouldnt be open air.. Just my opinion.

After all he was nice enough to give us some previews after we badgered him to death so lets not get off track from that fellas. Peace and love, peace and love...

Jesus Fuck Jim. Let it go please... its friggin' depressing.

Drew, I remember you posted this in your "Respect When Posting" thread:

"I put a stop to most of the personal attacks here and I’m going to do the same with any unfair attacks against the Journey members – both past and present."

Since Jeremey was a member for a brief time.. Jim's post directly goes against your wishes...

GI Jim is in the wrong here, and BOTH his posts baiting Jeremey need to be deleted... they don't belong on what WAS a great thread.

If you get depressed...don't read it. If Andrew sees fit to delete me, then that's his perogative. I have bit my tongue for a long time, and will not do it any more. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Jeremey made a dramatic departure from the forum months ago, then the first day he comes back, is a smart-ass to someone who tries to help him find a new guitarist. It's none of my business, but as someone who spends a lot of time here...I feel that if someone does someone wrong...we all have the right to step up and call them out on it.

I apologize for posting in this thread, and already stated so to Paul. I know his band will do amazing things!

Bullshit. Find one.

2. You partied with JSS and shared a stage with him at DC's while knowing that Neal and Jon were talking to you about being his replacement. Not too cool. Especially after lying about it numerous times on here.

Bullshit. I had no idea I was being tossed around as a replacement then, nor did I have any idea that JSS was going to be at that party, so if I DID know anyways, as so many seem to imply, I guess the appropriate thing would have been to leave the party and hide in a hotel room....

All I ever said in regard to this was that the clips everyone was listening to were nearly 15 years old, and it would be nice to have current clips to base an accurate review.

Your 1st day back, you get offended (and offensive) with Liquid Drummer who was trying to help you find another guitarist. All you had to say was thanks, but instead you insinuate that he belittled Frontiers and slammed your vocal talents...all he did was
compliment you, and try to help you.

2 part response: A) I posted one post about me leaving the forum, stating I thought it was a shame that I couldn't post here without being attacked continuously (uhh...deja vu??), and posting links to Frontiers stuff. Over the past couple of months, I run into TONS of people that DON"T post on this forum that read it regularly that come to Frontiers shows, and said how much they enjoyed reading my posts, etc but never posted for fear of getting beat up on. So it made me realize I was judging this forum based on a few negative people who continued to harass me for their own personal reasons, and there were tons of people out there that actually enjoyed reading my posts and knew about Frontiers from my activity here. So I decided to return and be more selective about my posting....And yet within one week, here we go again.

(B) I was polite and curt in my response to LD/Mark's comments about the drummer. It had nothing to do with Jason, Escape, or anything else you want to paint it as. I simply had just read a thread about Mark telling Paul that he would lay down his "sword" for the cause of promoting Escape all over the internet and making them the biggest Journey tribute there was, and then only moments later he offered me advice about hiring a guitarist. My only point was that I didn't get what his intentions were....Was the guitarist not a member of Escape for a reason now? Did the player really kind of suck and LD was only posting that to send me on a goose chase? I didn't know...And so I politely passed on the offer. Big deal. I also apologized in my next post.

I never said I turned down Journey to be with my family. I've even denied that sentiment right here in this forum. I have rehashed it over and over again. This is a case of me being on the record as saying one thing, and people perpetuating things by drawing their own conclusions. Find me a post where I said specifically that I turned down Journey to be with my family. I HAVE said, again and again and again - That I withdrew from consideration after being MADE AN OFFER, because Neal wanted to wait another 6 months or so, and I knew that there were ulterior motives, so I told him specifically to find someone else. I then discussed with Cain about the situation and said I would still be interested, but Schon would have NEVER hired me after that. Want to talk about lying and misrepresentation? How about Azoff management telling some blogger that I was never offered the job? How about the Journey website saying that Schon and Cain penned all 11 new songs by themselves? How about Schon going on the record saying he didn't want Hunsicker because he sounded "too much like Perry?" How about me silently dealing with all this and still having to confront boobs like you nearly 2 years later calling me a liar???

8. You're not being "Defined by your disgruntled ex-bandmates". You're being defined by your own actions and behaviors. Did I get you kicked off of the Annex? Don't think so!p

What the hell does the Annex have to do with anything on this website? Can DC Vader verify that I got "kicked off" the annex? Or are you just lying, Jim?

How about not making a negative environment where people don't feel able to post based only on your own selfish agenda?

10. it was a nice gesture of you to compliment Paul and Jason.

Jim, if you can't keep your vendetta against me off the pages of this board, maybe you should reconsider where you spend most of your time.

Sorry people.

You say its none of your business YET you choose to respond, AND THEN apologize after doing so... make up your mind... or maybe take your own advise to me and "don't read it".

You bait then personally attacked another forum member, who also happens to be a former band member...AFTER Drew asked ALL OF US to stop...

.. that's the equivalent of shooting oneself in the head... TWICE.

I'd really like to hear you guys again. When are you coming back to Indiana?

IMHO, he REALLY excels on the earlier stuff. We have been doing the "standards" (DSB, SW, Stone, Lights/Stay, Feelin'/Any, etc.) as part of our Eclipse show, and just added these later tunes (relative to SP, of course) in the past couple of weeks.
