I may be going there in July with my guy to the Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance. We'll be camping. I'm excited, but kind of scared because I'm more of a hotel with electricity and shower kind of girl. According to weather.com their average high is 80 degrees. That's not too bad, but I am kind of worried because I am not much good in hot weather and i'VE NEVER BEEN CAMPING.... Any advice....?

Are you serious? Blair witch? I have known my guy for several years and we've been dating seriously for the past 7 months.

We're definately going for a campground with a shower. I've told him, I have to have a shower. As to larry, I'm more scared of other people than my guy. Public facilities creep me out. I want to go though as we'll also being visiting his home town.

Ignore him, he's yanking your chain.

I used to tent camp a lot, if there are no public showers, take lots of baby wipes along. Also hand soap and towels. You can always wash your hair by A. Heating up water and mixing it cold water or B. Take a couple of gallon water jugs and put them in the sun all day. By the end of the day you'll have nice warm water. 8) I also preferred to use a air mattress because my back hurt from just sleeping on a foam mat. Have fun with it. :D You can PM me if you have more ?s

Can't say anything for the place, but for tent camping, I can give LOTS of advice.

Take 2 pairs of extra socks. Even in warm weather, it can get cold at night, and two pairs of socks on the feet can make all the difference, and camping without dry socks is a miserable experience.

If you aren't sleeping elevated off the ground (e.g. on a camp strecher bed) it's a good idea to have a blanket between you and the bed, unless you have a really good sleeping bag. The ground will leech heat away from you; even an air matress will bleed warmth into the ground.

Wet wipes or similar - take LOTS. Bathing whilst camping can be problematic, and you tend to get grottier than normal anyway. Being able to clean face, hands, arms pits and 'bits' with ease makes a big difference in how good you will feel.

If you have long hair, tie it back - it's going to get dirty, there's nothing you can do about it. I take a soft bristle brush to help keep it clean, and keep my hair braided; it makes a big difference.

If it's going to be hot, take a sun hat and extra sunscreen, and try to wear something light and loose but with longer sleeves; it's easy to get sunburnt because you won't want to be in the tent during the day as it will heat up. Make sure you stay hydrated.

Toilets... this is a tricky one. Camp loos and festival loos (especially 'porta-potties') are notoriously unpleasant. Unfortunately, not much you can do about it. Grit your teeth and go - post camping constipation is even more unpleasant. Again, wet wipes are your friend. They tend to be very confined, so try not to be carrying bags, jackets, etc when you go, and assume that the soap and water to wash your hands will have run out by the time you get there. I'll note - if the floor is damp and muddy looking, don't assume the worst; the floors do get dirty from people tracking in dust/mud, and the way they are designed, water tends to condense inside them in the early morning (same as dew) so they do often get damp.

I'm not sure how you are handling food, but I strongly recommend taking a few high-energy snacks, especially if you are likely to be busy, as it can be very easy to forget meal times. A handful of dried fruit and nuts can make all the difference. Try to avoid salty snacks, as you will need to drink more water (and thus brave the porta-loos more frequently ;) )

Don't forget to pack - bug spray, a torch with spare batteries, headache tablets (you may not need them, but if you do and don't have them you'll be miserable), toilet paper, a few smaller plastic bags (for rubbish, dirty/damp clothes, etc), matches and a towel.

If you've never been camping, probably the hardest part for you to deal with is that you are going to get dirty. There is nothing you can do about it. It's not that you have no option but be grubby, smelly and uncomfortable; you can get washed and clean, it's just harder than if you are in a hotel, and because you are outdoors all the time, you will get dirty/dusty/muddy. How terrible that is for you is really a matter of attitude. It's a bit like going on a rollercoaster; you can decide to hate it and grit your teeth in terror while you scream the whole time, or you can laugh yourself crazy even while screaming your head off. Take it for what it is - temporary, different and part of the fun.

Hope you have fun - it can be an addictive pastime.
