Listened to the new GD album on Rollingstone.com.

Pretty damned good album. Check it out.

Is everything going to go full circle again where the Renaissance that classic rock has enjoyed these last few years gets replaced by 80's alternative/progressive music or Grunge again?

There is just NO nostaglic clamoring for the 90's. 80's nostaglia began by mid 90's and has continued to grow. There aren't movies or anything else that are trying to highlight the 90's. The music was just terrible and nobody wants to hear it again.

I'm over the days where I clamor for all music to be like 80's pop rock. Those days are long gone and it's just impossible for music to be that way again. What's the fun in listening to the exact same stuff all the time anyway? As much as I love and appreciate melodic rock and support it, 90's music and modern music really isn't that bad, you've got to look beyond some of the popular stuff.

Besides, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.. Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots.... all EXCELLENT bands... can't hate on them at all, very talented groups.

Billy Joe and the boys kick some serious ass!!! A radio station here in the great white north has been playing their new and old stuff since yesterday. I think they are a very underated band with great ballads and rockin tunes. (and they are so cute in their tight little jeans and teeshirts).

i knew the 90's had truly hit around 1994 or so i went to a party and everyone there was lethargic or looked about half asleep.i made a lame attempt to kickstart this party by putting on some hard rocking music by motley crue i think it was kickstart my heart.anyway they looked at me and told me to chill out and sit,lol.i felt like billy madison when he cranked the stroke by billy squier in his t-top trans am.

There's something seriously wrong with that generation...

the 90's generation to me was watching people who thought frowning,being apathetic,not caring and just generally unhappy was like a cool thing.

this was also when television and music got really trashy and tasteless.not to say there wasn't good stuff out there but the vibe changed.

Bought it last night at Target... I'll listen to it on my way to rehearsal today and post my thoughts once I get home. I'm intrigued tho.

Guaranteed mega hit. "East Jesus Nowhere". OMG. I was enjoying the cd, listening and wasn't overly blown away...until track 8. Then the volume went WAY THE F UP on that sucker.... daaaamn. I think it got at least 20 plays this afternoon alone. I got up to track 12, then started to replay EJN over and over and over.

I imagine I'll listen to the rest of the Cd, but that song alone was worth the price. Two thumbs way up, and a sore neck from headbanging on the 101...

Agreed. Blanket statements when it comes to music genres never work (unless it's rap ). But seriously, you can't lump "the 90s" in together in one fell swoop any more than you can lump Journey in with say, Devo. Plus, bands like Hootie, Gin Blossoms, Vertical Horizon, and Better Than Ezra didn't exactly fit into the "dark" grunge mold. Finally, all the bands Prog mentioned at the end are great.

Bought the new U2 along with Green Day's new one. The U2 album really pales in comparison and really doesn't do much for me at all. Too bad cuz their last few albums were classics.

What's wrong with Hootie? Good hooks/melodies, good musicianship (if understated), and they sang really well together live. If you don't like the music, fine, but they were talented.

The stuff I heard from the new U2 sounded shitty. I doubt I'll be pursuing that. This Green Day album is interesting though, even though I was not one of the many who liked American Idiot at all.

It's only recently that I've heard of some of these 90's bands starting to make their comeback, and I'm not terribly excited about it. But closer to the year 2K the industry just started shelling out the clone band one hit wonders, and we had less memorable new acts than ever before. I doubt any of those saps will be able to come back, because no one will remember them.

with Hootie, I think that they were 'okay' but I think wayyyyy too much was made of them.

Listening now... songwriting is strong, as always Billy Joe is incisive and right on the mark... but jesus there's a lot of production on it... it has a production "sheen" that is anything but raw punk.. but GD one of the first acts to crossover from punk to mainstream, and their more polished production (just like Nevermind did it for Nirvana) had a lot to do with it.

Sonically this is a lot of fun to listen too.. the guitars friggin' sound like sex.. the drums bright & tight, bass is tight and filling.

I like the production. It doesn't mean the band is less of a band and I've never understood that kind of thinking. It's like "Hey, we've got all this sh*t at our disposal, let's use it!". I support that thinking. By the way, what's more punk than a punk going for something really UNpunk as more production? See, it just kind of flies in the face of what people expect and really, isn't that punk? And really, we are the world....

There will be a renaissance of 90's music, it has already begun. But I think it will come without the 'look at the floor' attitude. I don't see the fashion and style making a comeback but the music will. Hell, look at the reponse to the Legacy Release of Pearl Jam's TEN. They released a new single from it and it charted on modern rock and alternative charts!! Nirvana music is getting liscensed. Some bands are 'returning'...even stupid ones like Sugar Ray. It's coming.........and Singles is still a cool movie!

Someone once said "Rock N Roll is a young mans game".... We're gonna get rehashed everything until there are more new great, young bands writing great, relevant songs than there are old bands doing the same...

oh... and we need REAL FM FUCKING RADIO back... I HATE corporate radio and MISS the 70's when real DJ's programmed their own play lists... and spun new stuff cause they were genuinely excited about it.

That kind of radio will never be back. You better change the channel to college stations, best shot you got. Although a few satelite stations have some cool programs.
