What would you choose?

Postby Arianddu » Mon May 18, 2009 12:18 am

I've spent today writing the eulogy and burning the CD of music for Mamma's funeral tomorrow. It's got me thinking, as I've been going through Mamma's favourite albums, what music I would want at my own funeral.

My choices were Journey's 'Liberty', Cat Steven's 'Into White', John Williams' recording of 'Cavatina' (Stanley Myers) and 'Aase's Death' from the Peer Gynt Suite by Grieg.

So what music would you choose? 3-5 pieces is usual.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

This is something I find really hard to think about.

I guess something upbeat for me and my love for 80's pop would have to be on the playlist.

There's a VERY rare song by Air Supply called "NEVER FADE AWAY" and "SUNSET" that are both beautiful tunes and the words are incredible.

Here's NEVER FADE AWAY

And here's SUNSET

Now I'm depressed! LOL

Celine Dion's song Goodbye is the most stunningly beautiful mother/daughter tribute I've ever heard. :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjYyJ8EnHd0 Ari, this one may be too hard right now, but it might bring you comfort later. Hugz... Image

If were up to me, I wouldn't have a funeral. So if my family decided to have one, they could pick out whatever music is meaningful to them. Funerals are really more for the living anyway.

I'm very sorry that you lost your mother Ari. :(

There's been a lot of funerals in my family. I've decided I don't really want a funeral 'cause most of my family is already deceased. I want to be cremated...or if they can't do that just a pine box and no services.

However, you were asking about music...so I'll say something by Vivaldi or even something Celtic. Definitely no hymns since I'm not too religious anymore.

When my father passed away, we chose songs that had meaning to him.

I can only echo what others have said here. I am so very sorry for your loss and hope that your grief is shortened by the amount of love and memories you have for her.

Since I love so many varieties of music, I could not easily make a choice as to what I would have played.

I want my family to celebrate my life and my release into eternity.

They know the music I love and fave singers/bands. So I hope the music of my life takes me to my eternity.

My real question is....can I take my ipod with me?

I dedicate "I'll Be There" by Escape Club

Over Mountains
Over Trees
Over Oceans
Over Seas
I'll be there

In a whisper on the wind
On the smile of a new friend
Just think of me
And I'll be there

Don't be afraid, oh my love
I'll be watching you from above
And I'd give all the world tonight,
To be with you
Because I'm on your side,
And I still care
I may have died,
But I've gone nowhere

Just think of me,
And I'll be there

On the edge of a waking dream
Over Rivers
Over Streams
Through Wind and Rain
I'll be there

Across the wide and open sky
Thousands of miles I'd fly
To be with you
I'll be there

Don't be afraid, oh my love
I'll be watching you from above
And I'd give all the world tonight,
To be with you
Because I'm on your side,
And I still care
I may have died,
But I've gone nowhere

Just think of me,
And I'll be there

In the breath of a wind that sighs
Oh, there's no need to cry

Just think of me,
And I'll be there

And (of course) Remember Me by Journey.
