Porcupine Tree are releasing their first Roadrunner record this fall, September 22nd.

In case you haven't ever given these guys a listen, I highly recommend it... and if you're within traveling distance of one of their shows... YOU MUST GO.

The best musical experience of my life happened at a Porcupine Tree show.. these folk are simply magical.

I'm seeing them in Cleveland on September 21st.

Journey and Porcupine Tree are my two favorite bands. GO SEE THEM LIVE !! My god they were incredible and a MUST See if you are a drummer. Gavin Harrison as every bit as good as any of the top drummers out there including Smitty. As a drummer of 27 years I dont say that lightly.

Edit: Oh yeah, for you surround sound audiophiles out there. Their live dvd is probably that best sounding live 5.1 surround mix out there PERIOD. I have a pretty high end home theater and this DVD just sings !

From a former "Peart can do no wrong" drummer I have to say that Peart was never anywhere near Gavin in groove and techincal mastery. Peart has his own voice for sure and it made him the most popular rock drummer ever however.... Gavin is so much more versed in playing different feels and can even play Jazz far better than Peart even after Peart spent the last 10 years studying it. Peart is awesome no doubt but Gavin is a freak ! Just you tube his instructional stuff and be ready to scratch your head.

Gavin is fast becoming one of my favorite drummers to listen to. His phrasing, tasteful fills, and the way he plays odd time, really put him in a class all his own. I'd also love to get my drums setup like the way he has his, everything is so well placed and accessible. He's also made PT that much more interesting (to me) of a band to listen to. It's a great fit for both the band and him, I think. The rest of the band is excellent as well.

Shit. I'm stuck going alone to the Boston House of Blues show. Wife doesn't like em, kids don't like em... Guess I'll have to enjoy them all by myself

Haha, yeah, I wouldn't fashion PT immediately accessible...they're an acquired taste, but one that's well worth the investment. Lyrically, they are very dark at times. I can relate to them moreso than a 'Tool', or something equally dissonate.

When my grandmother passed away (whom I was very close to), I listened to 'Halo' alot. That's another great song.

Yup, not immediately accessible but well worth the effort. Better than most of the crap out there today. The best music is coming from overseas now. Sweden, Norway etc. The U.S. is reduced to run of the mill lowest denominator crap!

Gotta mention Japan - there seem to be an abundance of crazy talented, creative, and unique folks over there. Another place where they seem recognize musicianship and real talent, over surface level bullshit.

Fear Of A Blank Planet is an excellent album. Even a guest spot from Mr Lifeson on there.

I love Porcupine Tree!

Years ago I got a CD from a friend and discovered 3 bands I have loved ever since - Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation, and Metric. Metric has gone on to replace Journey as my alltime favorite band, but I also still love PT and PoS. Deadwing is still my fave by them.
