Perry came in number nine and was dubbed "the Pavarotti of rock" with a "multi-octave, soaring voice." The defining line was Cain's testimony that Perry's voice "defined a genre" or some such.

And then they had a three or four page article on Journey; an interview from 1981 with Neal and Steve.

Paul Stanley is a legend and can sing fucking circles around Eric Martin. Perhaps if you met him he would "emote" better and have more "soul."

lol.

To be fair, the list is based on greatness, which is not the same thing as skill. I don't think anyone argues that to begin with. And if people think that JSS is as "great" as the likes of Perry, Mercury, and so forth... they're retarded.

Firm difference between skill and legend.

Ok then I guess I get the Rod Stewart thing.....he is greatness......as well as Perry.
Point Taken

There are plenty of singers whom I would consider to be "greater" than Perry. Just not necessarily more skilled.

No mention of McCartney? You gotta be kidding me. I dare any of these singers, other than Ann Wilson to sing "Oh! Darling" with the balls he did. Or the end screams of "Hey Jude" or the ballsout "Helter Skelter". I've yet to hear a remake of HS that lives up to the original vocal McCartney did.

JAMES HETFIELD??? JIM MORRISON????
JH blows and Morrison had the range of crappily built paper airplane. Ugh, there are other ones there I never heard of...
Mercury was great, but I think Perry should've been above him.
I've never got the Joplin thing either. Maybe because she was one of the first ballsout chicks to sing. Thank God Ann Wilson made the list. She always gets shortchanged.
I don't know why Lennon always gets more kudos as a vocalist than McCartney. Paul had way more range and way more balls in his voice than Lennon. I like John Lennon, but he was nowhere near the singer McCartney is/was.

"Noddy Holder"? What that hell is that? Sounds like a sex toy.

Top 3 should be Plant, Mercury, and Dio....IMHO

Then Gramm....

No Benatar, she gets shortchanged more than Ann Wilson.

I don't think Pat's half the singer Ann is. She's okay, but Ann's got more balls.
Robert Plant... never got him either. That last stuff he did with Zepplin... dang, where's the pitch control when you need it!?

Paul Stanly is a legend and can sing fucking circles around Eric Martin. Perhaps if you met him he would "emote" better and have more "soul."

Whatever Dan. Bringing the fight upstairs are we? Not saying Paul Stanley or Kiss aren't legends, but as far as strictly singing/vocal skill I don't agree Paul can sing circles around Eric. And nice try, but didn't have to meet EM to know that he's a soulful singer, that was well apparent to me many years ago. Pretty sure meeting Stanley wouldn't make him a better vocalist to my ears. Didn't work with Kip Winger......very talented, very good singer and a sweetheart of a guy, but vocally doesn't bump any of my fave vocalists out of top 3.
