"Please Don't Ask Me"

Now, this I found interesting...

Arnel singing one of my all time favorite "non-Journey" songs:

...and "the voice" doing it a few years ago...IMO, blowing Arnel away: And, I know others will disagree...

Well, he isn't "THE voice", but I do have to say that he sounded awesome on that! He is an amazing singer, but to me...there's only 1 "The voice", and that's SMFP! I do think Arnel did a good job as a cover-band singer too though.

this song kicks ASS! Did he write this one? I know it's been sang by a hundred different people. Here's "You're The Voice" and he sounds amazing. :D

Andrew...I will forgive you for that statement, and take it as "I really like him, but of course we know Steve Perry is the greatest singer of all time". I completely agree with you!

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. By changing the arrangement around, Farnham made his version his own. Arnel's just copying John's version, which he does well but it'still a copy.

Sorry, but that implies that Perry actually still sings. Perry's 'best' lasted about 10yrs of his career. They are about the same age and Farnham has been having hits since he was what? 7? And, is planning a 'comeback' this year with an album and tour. Farnham has hardly lost anything over the 50+ years of his career. That's the resume' of a 'best ever'.

You failed to mention the fact that Perry is releasing his best album ever recorded (no...THE best album ever recorded!) later this year, and is going to sell out every stadium in the country next spring! Do you know what the Boogeyman is afraid of? Steve Mother Fuckin' Perry!

Not many singers can even come close to what he can do.

Yes he is good at mimicking and has a wonderful voice, but John went ahead and did the change up on the composition. You have to give points for originality and creativity and that's exactly what Farnham has done. Arnel is a chameleon but how much fun can it be to drive someone else's car? Eventually you'll want your own ride, won't you?

I agree, he's talented at singing songs that other people have made famous. I can't deny that.

But having merely a great voice doesn't automatically elevate you to Legend status, it's the other things that have made Farnham one of the most respected singers in the world. After AP knocks out a few more albums of ORIGINAL material with Journey, we can reevaluate his position amongst his peers.

I am not arguing with you about Farnham, what I am saying is, what Arnel can do is not easy. You need special talent to sound like the original artist, and most of the time it sounds better than the original (based from the youtube comments).

You're quick to point out that it's mimicking but my point is how many singers do you know who come close to what he can do.

But how many singers even worry abut singing other people's catalogs? Most concentrate on their own stuff with a few covers thrown in here or there. I understand that AP had to do it out of necessecity, I'm just saying even if Arnel sounds better to than the original, It's not going to change the reality that these people were the originals and have lots of money and fame from these songs. That part cant be carried over, no matter how well AP covers the song.

I understand that AP had to do it out of necessecity, I'm just saying even if Arnel sounds better to than the original, It's not going to change the reality that these people were the originals and have lots of money and fame from these songs. That part cant be carried over, no matter how well AP covers the song.

You are forgetting he's not from here. He released an album in the Philippines but he was not as successful. The cover songs were his bread and butter...to put food on the table.

Bleh.

One of my other favorite 'not Journey songs'. I'll take either version....just keep Arnel away.

Amen.
Whether it be the Farnham led LRB or Birtles, Shorrock and Goble, just wonderful harmonies. Even Glenn Frey was in awe of them.
