Guitarist out there...

When you break it... dont you just want to cry... and feel like a part of you is missing until it is fixed.

Just dropped my nice electro-acoustic for the multiple time and the little metal thing you use to turn and tune the string (I'm good with words, as you can tell) has broke off on the top E string.

Very sad.

Always use your shoulder strap. It's like a guitar seat belt. ;)

I hope you're able to find the head stock parts to fix it bro.

It could be worse. Back in the day when I was in a band, our bass player was being too rough on his bass and the neck came unbolted from the body during one of our shows! The whole thing folded up like an accordian and the strings were just flopping around hitting the pickups and making this god awful noise. Thankfully, a rival bass player was at our gig and lent his bass that he had with him to us so we could finish the show!

You need to stop doing those Pete Townsend guitar slams.

I've never heard of that happening. Wow.

Sorry for your accident man... guitars are not much different from pets, we get really attached. Even the exact same model will never feel quite the same. I haven't ever had a catastrophic accident like yours, but I was drunk one night and someone asked me to play.

Of course, I wanted to show off my 6-month old MIA Strat (a real beauty too). Anyway, I had it in the case face down on my bed. Little did I know I had not fastened the case clips or whatever, so I slide it towards me off the bed and before I know it the fuckin front of the case flopped open and the guitar comes crashing down onto the hard floor. I picked it up expecting to see half the cut-away smashed in or a pickup hanging out.

Lucky for me, it didn't get beat up too bad. There was a little crack at the top of the cutaway near the lower strings going into the bolt-on at the neck. Intonation and stuff was fucked up a bit, but I fixed it and I got away from it without any major cosmetic or functional damage to my Strat. Thank god.

What kind of bass was that? Couldn't have been a very nice one, or am I wrong?

It was a home built one. You know, back in the 80's everyone had to be like Eddie Van Halen and put his own guitar together. Our bass player tried it too but unfortunately he had taken it apart and put it back together too many times and I guess the joint was kinda weakened. You had to be there to appreciate it. We saw it happen and said "What the Fuck just happened!" All of sudden no bass in the mix and the neck in his hands with the body dangling by the strings. We had to finish the song with no bass. Pretty hilarious in hindsight!

The lead guitarist in my last band brought a cheap used guitar to a State Fair beer tent gig and busted the shit out of it onstage and then poured lighter fluid on it and lit it on fire. It was awesome!

I know most people can't go there. I've never been there myself. But somehow, sometime back, I found this website, and was just blown away with all the things they do. Their daily blog is fascinating to me.

Never had that. I did however had an experience in which I drove back from a gig. I made a little stop at a gas station and shuffled by gear around a little and went to get a drink there after that. I was driving for another 45 minutes and suddenly it hit me that I was one guitar case short.

I turned around and broke every speeding rule there is to get back to the gas station. When I arrived there was nothing to be seen at the parking lot.

I went in, expecting to hear "sorry dude, we saw nothing there", but furtunately someone had found the case and brought it to the station owner.

Scariest hour of my life. Still, after, say, 10 years from then sometimes I still wake up in cold sweat, having had a nightmare in which I relived it again.

It sounds like that guitar needs a Foster home due to abuse bro. I'm on the list so you can send it my way for temporary custody. :)

Sorry to hear you dropped it bro, it must suck. I do you know how you feel. I built a quitar last year (my first one) and was in the process of putting the backing plate on when I slipped and carved a 3" long scratch in the finish on the back. It SUCKED! Get her fixed.
