Saw a couple of trailers for 'Land of the Lost' and I have to tell you that hollywood failed again at making a remake of a CLASSIC. First of all, WILL Ferrell?? Casting this guy in that movie is like casting Pauley Shore in a remake of 'Courtship of Eddie's Father'. Land of the Lost wasn't a funny show. It was campy, and any comedy was unintentional and a byproduct of the era it was around in(70s). Take a look at the trailer and let me know if I'm half-baked or what?

Hollywood has a very shaky track record when it comes to these things....Must I remind everyone of Brenden Fraser's, 'Journey to the Center of the Earth'? Garbage. I think the error is in the studios trying to make every fucking movie a kid's movie so they can get the most people to go....MISTAKE.

Hoping it is funny is a product of Will Ferrell being cast in the lead. And nothing to do with it being 'Land of the Lost'.

My Dad is apparently a big fan of the original but he doesn't seem to have a problem with the Will Ferrell casting. In fact, he wants to go see it.

Will Ferrell Is either very funny or very stupid. Funny in Elf Stupid in Talledega Nights.

Land Of The Lost WAS a show for KIDS hence, the MOVIE will be for KIDS and ADULTS who saw the show when they were KIDS.

The original was a staple of my saturday morning viewing schedule back in the day... along with the original Scooby Doo, and Johnny Quest.

Like the movie versions of The Brady Bunch, it seems they are sending up the series, at the same starting something new.
Looks quirky, not necessarily good.
I'll see any summer flick, so I'll check it out.

I only go to the theater to see one of two kinds of movies:

1) Superhero movies

2) Horror movies

LOTL doesn't fit in either category. But I'll check it out on DVD.

For the horror fans out there, 'Drag Me to Hell', is not the return to horror some critics are dubbing it as.
Raimi has reverted to some of his old Evil Dead film student camera gimmicks, which is nice to see.
But the movie isn't scary at all.

Sci-Fi ran a 24 hour LOTL marathon last weekend. Now if they would only do that with Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, I'd be in hog heaven.

This movie was originally going to R-rated. It seemed like a major selling point on sites like ESplatter and FearNet. Then it gets trimmed to a PG-13 movie. I wonder if that hurt it much.... As for scary? I don't think a movie has scared me in decades. Although there have been a few that made me feel a little creepy.

Raimi recently said what he trimmed off the R-rated version was so minimal he doubts an unrated dvd will ever come out.
He hasn't totally lost it (see Romero, Argento etc), but this is no grand comeback.

Have you seen any good recent horror movies TNC? I trust your judgement. Have you seen "Let the Right One In"? I was disappointed in it.

Heard good things, haven't seen it yet.
I know it's getting the Hollywood remake treatment.
The remake of "Last House on the Left" didn't pull any punches and was pretty brutal.
Can't really recomend a rape/revenge flick as a good time at the movies tho.

If you haven't checked it out yet, YouTube is now offering full movies.
Their horror section is surprisingly decent (and I believe unedited).
Including obscure Z-grade classics like "Just Before Dawn" and "Slave of the Canibal God."
Also, a wide array of obscure 70s-80s slasher flicks, which Red13 will love.

Will Ferrell is as funny as it gets to me. I love that type of comedy... it makes me forget about the harsh realities of life for a few minutes.

I like SOME of Ferrell's stuff, but most of his movies feel about twice as long as thy should. I am probably the only person who actually liked him in Stranger Than Fiction, and I still enjoy Night At The Roxbury. Step Brothers had it's moments as did others. But I don't think there is a FULL movie I enjoy (although I am sure I am forgetting quite a few of his movies).

You are correct that I didn't like Beverley Hillbillies...actually I am not sure I ever watched it. I like most of Dumb And Dumber. I can take Talledega or leave it. I guess it's true that I like a slightly high-brow level of comedy.

Personally, it loses the edge for me when a popular comedian actor does a serious film. Then they compete with the serious actors which are out of their league.

I think a good actor can find that middle ground. I thought Bill Murray was very credible in Lost in Translation.

Some comedians do well, others don't. I am glad Tom Hanks made a switch, although it does seem he has turned his back on comedies. I like Robin Williams' non-comedic stuff as well. I actually think it brings something to the drama when you see someone you associate with funny being serious. It makes you feel like it must really be serious than if they're not cracking jokes.

Will Ferell is the most over rated comedian of his time. He has a funny face and has great one-liners, but his movies are horrible and just cycle off each other. Night at the Roxbury was his best movie.

Surprisingly strong in dramatic roles is Adam Sandler. Reign Over me was Oscar nom worthy...and he was very good in Spanglish too. Click and Punch Drunk Love weren't dramas, but he did well bringing a different sort of comedy to those roles too (and to a lesser extent Wedding Singer). As far as Ferrell....his character in Old School is probably my favorite comedy character ever......and nobody has been better on SNL.
