I know the article was posted here but I'm re-linking to it for the reading of the comments that followed the concert. In addressing the first commentor, a Mr. Jim Knapp. His comment was:
"LOL what a joke.. this was NOT Journey...it was basically a tribute band. They have only TWO original members of Journey and a Filipino lead singer..who by the way IS NOT Steve Perry.

Steve Perry WAS Journey...the rest were just interchangeable band members.

Image is everything...substance in America no longer means anything."

The guy obviously has his panties in a wad.

So, to Mr. Knapp:

I guess this is Journey then...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8imszU1 ... re=related Now that looks like a tribute band, doesn't it?

Steve Perry was Journey? Hmmmm...doesn't this look and sound like Journey? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVobtub--Wg

Rinse and Repeat.

SW w/ SP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocRnOQx4Btg

SW with Journey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MkfTHHytP8

Now, the purpose of this post is in no way to bash SP, but damn, I feel like kicking some of these tools in the head. I'll bet the fucker wasn't even there. I'll bet he didn't even know there have been three lead singers since SP. I love Steve Perry, but people who claim SP was Journey need to be reminded that SP was not the original lead singer either.

Steve was certainly the focal point of all things Journey - commercially speaking, but Neal formed the band.

Believe it or not though, I have encountered many fans unaware there was ever a Journey before Steve joined.

I mentioned once that Steve was singer #3 and nearly had my head removed by some vicious loon :)

Yeah, so on the logic of some of the loons, Journey technically became a tribute band when Steve Perry joined, or even one before him.

I would love to see a fight between a loon and a wombat.

My money would be on the wombat.

Also, they probably thought that Arnel just replaced SP yesterday or Journey fired SP and replaced him with Arnel and did not know about SA or JSS Image

I hate the comment : "He isn't Steve Perry."

I see that comment through and through, almost daily on you tube, articles, and here. God dammit, no fucking shit he isn't Steve Perry. Way to be a world changer and state the known obvious, fudge packer. Arnel has 0 known features to compare to SP other than his long black locks. Seriously, Perry was what? 5'8 or something? American? Arnel is 5'3, Asian, and jumps around like a nut, and doesn't have the same voice box as Perry.

If you want to get technical, 100% of the world population doesn't have/share the same voice box as their peers! That means 2 people cannot be the same person.. even Siamese twins. So obviously Arnel Pineda isn't Steve Perry. Nor is he Shania Twain, George Bush, Richard Simmons, Denzel Washington, Jack Black, Friga, Jason Vorhees, Rocky Balboa, Pinocchio, Santa Claus, or Rodger Rabbit. The damn guy's name is ARNEL PINEDA. People need to STFU and stop stating the obvious. There's only one Steve Perry, we get that, as there is only one stevew.

 8)

Who really cares about one person's comment to an article? Not me. Five people probably responded to that article and went back and forth with each other. Mostly the person saying the negative things re Journey and Arnel, and I even saw one on there bashing Steve Perry somewhat. To me, it means nothing and so unimportant to post over a couple comments. Ten to twenty thousand people, on average, attending concerts last year and enjoying Journey are what's important.

exactly.

hehehe

I wouldn't say it became a tribute band but it definitely dissolved the Journey sound---for me anyway, as it bacame more and more pop. I am a loon, through and through make no mistake, but Journey was a different band when he came aboard. Not good, not bad--just different. And for the record, I still miss Journey. give the vocalist about 30 minutes off and let the band jam--like the original band in the good ole days.

imho

What exactly would they have been playing tribute to? When I saw Journey in 81, they only played one song written before Perry entered the band (WITS).
Anyway Journey could technically be a tribute bad for Santana if we want to get that serious about it.

It's a fishwrap from Cowtown U.S.A and Jana is so right on this one. Why give the person the time of day? You are Empowering him/her with every response. The person who wrote the first post probably can't believe the attention they have got. Group B seems to be displaying a level of insecurity that Group A is obviously feeding off of and the blog also as it is garnering quite a few hits. Notice the moderators keep it going with a little bit of policing also. I wouldn't be surprised if the site maintainers knew exactly who Group A was and have encouraged him to continue the debate but keep it within the guidelines of the site.
And then you have the bystander posters laughing at both sides.
