Night Ranger is the poor man's Van Halen.
Survivor is the poor man's Journey.
Agree, disagree?
Add your own, (not limited to bands).

I think Andrew's a Survivor fan so would like to hear his take on them compared to Journey.

You are very.. very.. very wrong. The Alarm are fucking amazing. The second to last album was stellar from start to finish. I see very few music similarities between the two bands.
EDIT - apart from that YouTube which sounds very much like U2. But I have all their back catalogue and dont see many other similarities.

They were no doubt very Journey influenced however.

I hate the term "poor mans" actually. Because all bands are influenced by others and sometimes they sound similar, but they all create their music and are talented in their own right

Night Ranger can hold their own against any band. You Can Still Rock In America is one of my favorite songs, and Brad Gillis is one of my favorite guitarists. I just saw them two weeks ago and they still rock their asses off.

None of the above. Just a dark haired white male.
How about you, you're a poor man's (woman's) version of who?

My ex-boyfriend in my early twenties was a poor man's young Elvis Presley. What a loser he was but, oh, so beautiful. Those were my shallow years.

It was always said ColdPlay was an imitator of U2. But I remember recently reading a funny line after someone listened to U2's new CD. They said U2 is now a poor man's ColdPlay.

I would say that Poco, Pure Prairie League and Firefall could be seen as the poorman's version of the Eagles.
I do enjoy all of those bands, myself.
