One of my all-time faves! You can also see the complete behind the scenes special in parts on YouTube and it's really something to watch. Especially all the vocal screw ups... Puts a little reality into what goes on in the recording process.

Damn I remember that fondly! I remember even having the "making of" doc on VHS. Geoff Tate can wail, clearly one of the best vocalists in the damn room.

Does anybody know why Sammy Hagar wasn't a part of this project? He could easily have replaced Paul Shortino* and done a better job of his lines, while keeping intact the other singers' roles, all of whom were his '70s peers excepting Geoff Tate. Or was the Van Halen camp considered an impregnable wall? (*Paul Shortino = poor man's Dio.)

I just listened to HSAS tonight for the first time in years...holy shit, I forgot how ferocious that album is! Talk about a vocal benchmark for Sammy...the dude just wails. And speaking of wailing, Schon really rips it up like a mofo. HSAS is just as good as 5150 and even better in places. Not a dog in the eight original songs, and the cover of "Whiter Shade Of Pale" is really cool. The only downside is those four never recorded Part Deux! :|

I just get the name joke! "Hearing Aid" Hahahaha. And that after, say, 20 years!

Pretty cool song, although I do hope that they meant some kind of self sarcasm with the title. It's funny to see all these guitarist playing as fast and shreddy as they can and then see Schon playing a - relatively - melodic solo. Less is more....

One thing I totally forgot about: how lame Brad Gillis's solo is!! He was totally effing off. All style, no substance, full-on wank.

Eddie Ojeda coming after Malmsteen...ouch. Move along, nothing to see here...

Carlos Cavazo isn't exactly a guitarist's guitarist, but his solo was solid.

Best solos are DEFINITELY Lynch's and Schon's!

Too bad Smith & Murray did only the harmony guitar parts and no solos themselves. I would've liked to hear at least Adrian burn a solo.

One of my favorites was actually Donald Roeser from Blue Oyster Cult -- very melodic and groovin', and really stuck out when many like Malmsteen were just showing off their speed. No wonder they saved him near the end.

Love how Don knocks 'em dead!

He needed more time at the mic in that video.

Don is hilarious in the making of vids, and especially with the exchanges between him and Dio during his vocal sessions.

Saw BOC last year (with Dokken, coincidentally). Buck still uses the same facial expressions and gestures when he plays. Not to mention, for a guy that's 61, he doesn't look a day over 45. In other words, he's got a Cain thing going for him.

Sounds like a cool double bill! I haven't seen BOC for five years. Is Buck still playing the swiss cheese guitar?

Holy cow! He needs to keep it longer. With the short hair he reminds me too much of Paul Anka!

Talking to Buck (and Eric, briefly) after the set, I couldn't believe how short he is. I am NOT tall, but he made me feel tall.
