It has buttons. They just happen to be virtual :P  And the screen is so much bigger than those other phones. That's what I like about it. After using it for one day now, my typing is actually very fast with it. It's easier than I thought it would be. Faster than my stupid flip phone with number keys, that's for sure  And if my stubby Italian fingers can type with no problems, anyone's can

Actually stubby fingers are what I would think make it much easier. It's the ones with the 1 1/2 inch claws that I'm amazed by.

I'm going to text you bad words in caps so they show up on your big open screen for all to see

One of my co-workers told me today that the Apple people told her in order for the iPhone to keep running properly you have to hook it up to iTunes every day, whether you use it or not for music. Seems strange, but hers was all screwed up until she found that out and has done it like they told her and it seems to run just fine now.

Well, when I plug it in to charge the phone on my computer, it automatically pulls up Itunes anyway while it's charging, so that shouldn't be a problem since I do it that way I guess. Maybe she was charging hers in the wall all the time. I'm not sure why you'd have to do it that way everyday though. I can't when I'm away. Maybe the new "update bugs" thing will fix that

And someone told me there is a setting you can do that keeps the text from popping up like that, but I don't know if it's true or not! lol Mike is already texting me crazy and gross things to irritate me, so he beat you to it :P

It's really a lot more durable than I thought it would be. I'm gonna get a rubber case for it though so it can bounce just in case

I am a complete idiot because I can't see any difference with the update  Of course I have only had the phone 2 days. I guess I need to look up what these things are and how to do them on the Apple site.

Just updated mine this morning and it erased several (but not all) of my favorite downloaded apps, but my data is still intact. Maybe those versions were incompatible with 3.0 or I didn't read all the fine print or something. Will try to re-download them now.

How does the copy/paste feature work? Been wanting that functionality for a while. Anyway, with the big price drop in the 8GB 3G's, I'll finally be upgrading my old model as soon as I can.

What??? You guys haven't had the ability to copy/paste???

That was a basic ability that I had on my very first PDA phone and I'm on my 3rd 6 years later! Image

LOL... No, and it's been a pain not having the ability to at least select text when you are replying to long forum posts on an iPhone and want to trim back a chunk of the previous text. BTW, I just realized all my apps were there -- it had just inserted a new third page in the middle of the other two with only one app on it, so I thought my 2nd page of apps was gone. Rearranged them and am back to 2 pages.

Can't answer that question directly, but my Windows Mobile device can send photo messages, email with attachments, and I can even beam something to a friend. Is that what you mean?

This is exactly why I love and stick with my Windows Mobile phone. I can put anything (application, hack, or tweek) I want on this thing, including a custom ROM! Hell, I already got rid of my carrier's bloatware on my phone to free up some space for other stuff. Most of what the iPhone does, mine has already *been* doing. Mine is a touch screen, too, but it also has buttons/scroll wheel and a slide out keyboard, so that there is always at least 2-3 ways to do things. If something happens to my touch screen, I'm not totally screwed. :)

It's really to each person's tastes and preferrences, but I think the hype and adoration that the iPhone gets is overrated. It's just a cool toy to play with and the whole school yard wants one so they can be cool, too. I'll stick with the phone that I got for free.

BTW, I'm just curious... Can you also insert a memory card into the iPhone or is it all internal memory? Mine can take up to a 32GB card. 8)

The iphone does have some drawbacks, but I really like having that small little television like touch screen. There isn't anything like that. It also doesn't hav voice recognition for finding contacts.

I'm so sorry, but I'm a little bored today & of hearing everyone going ga-ga on release day... :)

It's not quite like a TV, but my WM device does both of those things, and uses voice for also the calendar, media, messaging, and can launch a program from the start menu.

I don't want to sound cruel by any means, so I'll stop now...

Oh you only sound cruel to yourself for using a Windows based cellphone. :P
Windows = Crash

I love my iphone (and my iPhone 3GS too as soon as I get off work)
The simplicity of Iphone, combined with the screen quality and the App Store with all kind of games software for everyone makes it a true winner :)

People who give iPhone a fair chance and just play with it for 5 minutes, realize what an amazing device it is. Here's one example of next gen technology that you can NOT do on ANY OTHER phone:

If you lose your phone, you can go to your PC/MAC, and wipe out all personal info from your phone remotely , plus send a text message to it for whoever that found it to return it for a little reward,, or better yet, just locate the phone on the map and go get it. Thats innovation, Apple Style :)

The apps are what makes the Iphone unbeatable, even the Ipod Touch blows everyone else out of the water because of this feature. Instead of having to browse with your phone, every thing can be preinstalled, maps, dictionaries, encyclopedias, even Super nintendo Emulation.
Hook your PC to your big screen TV and let your iphone be your mouse/keyboard combo, totally cool.

Not sure, but there have been several times I wished I could have. I did find out how to select text and cut/paste, btw, and it functions very well! The function is activated exactly how I thought it should be -- by just touching the text for a second. For some reason it didn't seem to work the first time I tried.

That's one of the main things I love about the iPhone -- most functions seem to be very intuitive so you can just guess how to do them. Never had to read a manual with mine, either. Just picked it up and started using it right away. It's like real people designed it instead of jugheads.

You're drinking a little too much Apple Kool-Aid and need to do a little research on what device management capabilities are available on other phones.
