(06-19) 10:02 PDT Muskogee, Okla. (AP) --

A 23-year-old woman is accused of getting friend to kill her Jack Russell terrier and skinning the puppy to make a belt out of its hide.

Krystal Lynn Lewis and Austin Michael Mullins, 26, were being held Friday in the Muskogee County jail on $25,000 bail each. They were charged with one felony count of cruelty to animals.

"We're talking about a 6- or 7-week-old defenseless puppy," said sheriff's deputy George Roberson. "That's pretty heinous and sadistic."

A Muskogee County judge ordered a mental competency hearing for both defendants.

Lewis wanted the puppy, named Poplin, killed because it was a gift from a female ex-lover with whom she doesn't get along, said Muskogee County sheriff's deputy George Roberson.

Roberson said Mullins shot the terrier 10 times with a .22-caliber pistol. Lewis skinned the animal at her apartment and nailed the hide to a board.

Sounds like a vendetta kind of thing. She took her anger and hatred out on an innocent animal.

I had a neighbor several years ago, who shot his dog because the courts said his wife would win the dog in a custody battle. He loved the dog very much.........but she wasn't going to have it.

People can take vengence to a new level of crazy. :evil:

I hope the worst thing they could ever imagine happens to them. Over. And over. And over. A 6-7 week old Jack Russell weighs only about a pound. TEN TIMES you had to shoot it? Jesus God this is making me sick. I have a Jack (10 months old) and I get choked up at the thought of anything happening to him. I would tear someone's hide off bare handed if they tried to hurt him. Maybe these two will get in with an animal lover in prison and that very thing will happen. :evil:

I seriously become physically ill when it comes to abuse of animals, children and the elderly, animals especially. This story reeks of a mental health situation coupled with some extreme Anti-Social determinants. I work in the Mental Health/Substance Abuse field, I am no professional, but well, wow the things I see and hear. Just like this story, this is sad, but unfortunately not uncommon. What is worse MH Tx (Mental Health Treatment) and facilities for Tx can be hard to obtain funding for, no one wants to care for people with MH illness or Drug issues or even admit to these illnesses. People like those two, therefore, continue to do what they do. Later when I get home I'm kissing the hell out of my bad-breath smelling, fat-ass, no job having lazy cats, to be sure!
