I have the show from The Warfield in 03 when Dunbar sat in for Castronovo on a couple Infinity tracks. Damn cool.

Hmm... in a fantasy world I'd be happy with either Rolie, Smith, Augeri or Soto... but honestly, I've seen all four of those guys on their own (well, Jeff was with TSO when I saw him, but still... he killed) and they were all still really great, so I don't need them in Journey. Their time with Journey is done, and that seems to be the way things are meant to be.

Funny thing is, I don't have a comparison to draw on for preference (of "with Journey or without), having only seen them (live) without Journey, with the exception of Jeff.

p.s. Fleischman? Are ya kiddin' me? and Jackson? ONLY if he brings back the pink bass and f*@ked up outfits.

The closest I could come to an answer would be Steve Smith, however, I choose none of the above. I like the band the way it is right now. Nothing needs to be replaced. They got machine working nice right now.

Rolie, just because I've seen Augeri and Soto, and I dig watching Deen on the drums and hearing him sing once or twice every show.

I always got the impression from his interviews that if the "classic lineup" was going to do a tour, he would agree basically for the benefit of the fans, but that Journey just wasn't his main interest anymore. Of course, when Perry left, so ended any chance of a "classic lineup". My guess is that if Ross had left the band, Smith would have followed.

I really miss Steve Smith.. He's one of my favorite drummers, along with Simon Phillips.

The current guy's drums sound like crap to me, as he loves to play like a modern 12 year old, all popish sounding and with little beat clarity..

Back in the day there were a lot more thunder sounding drum beats with understandable separation and beats, like those in Faithfully and some Def Leppard songs. Those are my favorite.

Jackson. That would be HUGE publicity for the band.

Get him into his 1986 outfit and hair style, and it would generate even more buzz...

I went on YouTube to see if there was anything on there with this show and I couldn't find anything. I kind of like ol' Aynsley--he was good and loud, lol. Love Steve of course but AD reminds me of the way the 70s were--kind of raw or something. Maybe I could search YouTube using the name of a song along with his name? In short, which songs :) ?

That's spot on. Deen is a great singer, but his drum sound and overall feel really isn't that good. Journey would be better off with someone like Tico Torres, Simon Phillips or Steve Smith; guys that have superb tecnique and can lay down one hell of a groove.

The band would be far better of with Randy instead of Valory. Ross got funny faces and all that - but he's a mediocre bass player. :)

The first two I'd like to see any time, the second two would be cool for a few songs and the third two already made their "guest appearance" and it was enough for me.

I preface this with the admission that I've never even touched a bass guitar, but Dan pointed out that Ross was involved in all of the complicated progressive tracks from the pre-Perry days, which suggests some measure of talent.

Of course, Randy was good enough to get his own bass solo during ROR, if I remember from a video or two. And it would be excellent publicity for the band.

Lastly, Smith vs. Deen? I'm going to have to go with Deen. Smith's drumming never impressed me until Trial By Fire. It seemed like he was held completely in check by either Schon or Perry or both. Deen's a serious monster whose drumming on Revelation is just as good as Smith's in TBF.

Consider Deen's take on "Chain Reaction" compared to Steve Smith's.

IMHO, Deen wins by a decent amount.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

You just proved you have not an intellectual take on Journey , its' history or it's personnel. What a dumb fucking statement.

Castronovo can't carry Smith's sticks and he knows it too. Ask him if you don't believe me.

Smith is a vocalists dream drummer. he knows when to and not to soften the strikes and hits around words. Perry loved Smith. Arnel doesn't know better or frankly could care less what the fuck is happening behind him.

Gideon, you know not what you speak of.
