HAMBURGER ABENDBLATT
Concert review
Rock journey with Journey in the city park
From 25th Tino Lange June 2009, 11:57 clock

1600 visitors enjoyed two hours technically perfect rock veterans of the 70s from San Francisco - and a fantastic new singer.

Hamburg. "The first person knows a song ... must spend a beer!" That was our plan on Tuesday at the Journey concert in the park. Because honestly, the 1973 by Neal Schon and Gregg Rolli after their exit from Santana Band, founded in San Francisco has made in the 70s and'80s million records sold, but that was far ahead of our time. In addition, Journey to 2006, two decades in Europe can look. A Reader's call ( "Great band, do not miss it!") Made us curious.

With their latest album "Revelation" (2008) visited singer Arnel Pineda, guitarist Neal Schon, bassist Ross Valory and Jonathan Cain multi Hamburg for the first time, and drummer Deen Castronovo sick had to remain in Berlin, but was represented. With these were also just under 1600 fans - a manageable amount for the sunny city park, but for a sold-out Big 36 would have the freedom loose enough. In addition to Journey fans of the first hour, we also discovered many younger visitors, sometimes even with the recent admission bracelets Hurricane Festival equipped. Even indie-pop bard Olli Schulz risked a glance at Journey.

What they saw was an entertaining two hour journey into an era in which quitschbunte airbrush plate covers and infinite guitar solos, the measure of all things were. In particular, Neal Schon was on his Gibson Les Paul can hardly be stopped and fired technically perfect, crystal clear reefs in the Round, which definitely sometime Guns N 'Roses Slash Bieger strings have inspired them. Slash and already occurred some time ago together with Paul Rogers and Bad Company on. It was surpassed in the park by 2007, however, entered the new singer Arnel Pineda. The Asian artists, in his native Philippines has for years been popular with his mag light voice does not meet all tastes, but his performance at the micro in "Stone In Love", "Change For The Better" or "Do not Stop Believing" should the best have been, in recent years in the city was experiencing. Is simply fantastic!

Oh yes: The crew of the authors of these lines, a 32 year old guitarist, but actually knew the Journey hit "Wheel In The Sky". Thanks for the beer!

He looks so little out on that grass. But I agree, he's fully assumed the roll. Great thing to see.

Arnel has these songs by the short hairs.
The once nightly issue of "will he be able to hit that note" doesn't even come up in this Journey lineup.
Listen to how he sings 'Only the Young' with ease.

That's exactly what I was thinking. And the reviews over there show that they have really appreciated his great vocals and energy on stage.
