Anybody else freaking out about this???

SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days.

Off China's coast, a U.S. destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.

The Kang Nam left the North Korean port of Nampo a week ago with the USS John S. McCain close behind. The ship, accused of transporting banned goods in the past, is believed bound for Myanmar, according to South Korean and U.S. officials.

The new U.N. Security Council resolution requires member states to seek permission to inspect suspicious cargo. North Korea has said it would consider interception a declaration of war and on Wednesday accused the U.S. of seeking to provoke another Korean War.

"If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will ... wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all," the official Korean Central News Agency said.

The warning came on the eve of the 59th anniversary of the start of the three-year Korean War, which ended in a truce in 1953, not a peace treaty, leaving the peninsula in state of war.

The U.S. has 28,500 troops in South Korea to protect against an outbreak of hostilities.

Tensions have been high since North Korea launched a long-range rocket in April and then conducted its second underground atomic test on May 25.

Reacting to U.N. condemnation of that test, North Korea walked away from nuclear disarmament talks and warned it would fire a long-range missile.

North Korea has banned ships from the waters off its east coast starting Thursday through July 10 for military exercises, Japan's Coast Guard said.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported Wednesday that the North may fire a Scud missile with a range of up to 310 miles (500 kilometers) or a short-range ground-to-ship missile with a range of 100 miles (160 kilometers) during the no-sail period.

A senior South Korean government official said the no-sail ban is believed connected to North Korean plans to fire short- or mid-range missiles. He spoke on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

U.S. defense and counterproliferation officials in Washington said they also expected the North to launch short- to medium-range missiles. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence.

South Korea will expedite the introduction of high-tech unmanned aerial surveillance systems and "bunker-buster" bombs in response to North Korea's provocations, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper said, citing unidentified ruling party members.

Meanwhile, a flurry of diplomatic efforts were under way to try getting North Korea to return to disarmament talks.

Russia's top nuclear envoy, Alexei Borodavkin, said after meeting with his South Korean counterpart that Moscow is open to other formats for discussion since Pyongyang has pulled out of formal six-nation negotiations.

In Beijing, top U.S. and Chinese defense officials also discussed North Korea. U.S. Defense Undersecretary Michele Flournoy was heading next to Tokyo and Seoul for talks.

South Korea has proposed high-level "consultations" to discuss North Korea with the U.S., Russia, China and Japan.

My Uncle was in the Korean war and when he got out and retired after 25 years in the military as a Sargent Major he always said we need to watch out for Korea. Our troops are in danger being their.

There is serious speculation that the N. Korean leadership actually wants to attack America because they know (from history) that America will devistate their country and then spend American time, money and manpower rebuilding the country back up. We did that to the Japanese in WWII. N. Korea is so poor and basically all fucked up that they can't fix the problem on their own.

There was this movie about such a situation and it's believed that the president of N. Korea got the idea from that movie.

I think I saw that movie, or at least part of it. I think it was supposed to be a comedy, right? At any rate, Kim Jong Il (or whoever is currently in charge of that little jive time place) is a day late and a dollar short on this one. We're busted. We're broke. We have no money. We can't afford the fix the stuff we already broke. Maybe try again later when we're back on our feet. Until then...well, maybe we can afford to devastate N. Korea, but the rebuilding is going to have to wait...a loooooong time.

For years, France has been suffering from guilt over their colonial past. They've brought in so many african immigrants as a form of moral compensation and it is utterly destroying their infrastructure. Cities like Toulouse, Marseille and Lyon are struggling to cope. Those are the places where France would be putting their money before even giving any thought to rebuilding a place like N. Korea.

Now that I think of it, I think it was a book and not a movie. About those two Asian honey's who are over there doing 12 years of hard "labor", What are their men doing? He may be bullshit, but Obama has to take those bullshit words seriously. What Obama can relax on is he knows N Korea has no vehicle(missile), capable of traveling from NK to the USA. If NK wants to wipe us off the map, they need to do it via suitcase bombs; UNLESS, they somehow team up with China. China is the wild card in all of this. As is Russia.

I think who would really like to smoke-check N. Korea more then anybody are the Japan and not as much America wanting to do it. If the Japanese were not so much a docile culture now, I wouldn't put it passed them to take out a suspect facility or two in N. Korea, much like the Israli's did to Iran some years ago. Now if N. Korea was only a few thousand miles from America's main land, we'd of already secured N. Korea's liberty and had them all up in a hurt locker.

The movie was, "The Mouse That Roared." Dean has put his ass on the line twice. I respect every single thing he says about war. He knows. Are you all ready to send your kids to war because there would have to be a draft. Gideon is that ripe old age for a draft, too. Makes me sick.

No..haven't served. Wasn't pro-military as a kid, then after 9-11 completely did a 180 on everything defense and military. I considered right on 9-11 but didn't know if I could hack it to be brutally honest. If we were attacked by a North Korea say, I would join, but as an overweight 35 year old with a shitty ankle I'm not sure they'd have me? I'd like to think I could offer the military some skill in some way...but I don't know? I don't hope either the Iranian or N.Korean issues escalate, but I do worry they will. I don't feel these guys fear consequences at this point in time. Its scary. I'd sleep better if we could take Kimmy out.

If you guys haven't figured this out, this guy speaks the same tongue as other isolated psychos running oppressive countries. The phrase "wiping *insert*country*here* from the map" was used by Iran too, folks.

It's just the negative attention seeking of a dictator that can't make his tyranny work without the rest of the world bearing down on him.

I give this guy the same attention that my Mother-In-Law and my grandmother deserve, zero. They are all attention starved, and not for positive attention....negative attention.


I do think that someone like this guy should NOT be allowed to have nuclear weapons, because the likelihood of N.Korea, Iran or my Mother-In-Law to actually hit the red button and use nuclear weapons is high.

But having said that, I also think that squaring off and fighting these nations is also a mistake, because of the above phrase.


So to that end, Bush got it wrong. Answering these saber-rattling threats only gives these dictators the ability to advance internal tyranny. I think, as much as it pains me to say it, Obama's doing the right thing. He's being awfully pragmatic with Iran and N.Korea and only responding to things that need direct attention.

N.Korea and Iran will change from within, because to change from outside force will only strengthen the tyrannical resolve of these countries....Iran almost did it this week. There's going to be a civil war in that country soon....all we have to do is sit back and watch from the sidelines and make sure nothing spills over. In the end, we can extend a hand to the much weakened power that wins out and name our terms.

I think the hands-off approach with Iran is good, but we'll need to covertly help the rebels there, and we need to know what the hell is really going on to. I'm concerned we're being viewed as too soft and some of these nuts will begin to test us.

You know, even tho Kimmy is whack, I DO think he knows better than to launch anything ANYWHERE close to Hawaii. I think if he does launch a long range missile, he won't come within several hundred miles of anything that is U.S. territory.

I'm not sure that a hands off approach is a good idea either. But there are other ways to cut the legs out from under a tyrant. The 911 approach, which is to let americans die in a tragedy and using the tragedy to massively mobilize people...so that there can be a full-frontal military attack....clearly didn't work.

My wife said it best a few minutes ago. Twitter, a product of the free west, played an instrumental process in the iranian unrest this week. People were able to communicate via twitter within iran...and all of a sudden, internal unrest.


I feel there's plenty of things that can be done to squeeze iran and N. korea....to encourage these countries to turn on themselves, instead of turn on us.
