One of my dogs just nearly drowned. Thank god she made it!

We went to the park to play and walk. She went for a swim and suddenly went under. I went into the water to get her. She wasn't breathing. Luckily a lady there knew dog CPR. We rushed to the vet and she slowly started breathing on her own again. She was in shock but will live.

This is a really old dog, but like a cat she seems to have at least 9 lives!

She ate for the first time and is now sleeping.

WOW! Good thing for that woman knowing dog cpr. She was lucky. Glad that she is eating and doing better.

I'm so glad this story had a happy ending. Glad to see your Pukah is okay.

It was just scary as hell, I didn't know what to do. Good thing that lady knew what to do.

I don't have children, so my pets are my children.

You know, it's a good thing to know what to do if your dog chokes, too.

So glad your dog is OK. I would have totally freaked out.

Wow, that's really scary. Our dog will get in the lake when we go. I'll keep a close eye on her, she's getting old also.

I was freaked at the moment, so glad that these other people knew what to do. Good thing there were lots of people with dogs.

Don't know what had happened if I was there by myself.

You know, she always swims a litle bit, but this time she apparently got water in her ear and lost track of direction. She was spinning circles and went down. I saw it happening and jumped right in. I will never let her get into the water, she's just too old for that now.

Late last night -- well, 2 a.m. I took my dog out and she took off across the street after something. I followed her. I looked back across and Max the cat is now in the street trying to cross over to us, as he always walks with us everywhere. And then I see headlights across the park area that a car is approaching and there's a curve b/f it would see us. So I run out in the street and grab the cat worried it would hit him, and as I'm running back to the side with the cat my dog runs past me out into the street just as the car is rounding the curve. I just froze and couldn't be sure the car would see her as it would be right after the curve, so ran back out into the road waving my arm and had the cat in the other arm while trying to get to my dog. I couldn't have lived with myself if the car didn't see her or or she didn't get out of the way in time. Thank God the car didn't hit me, as it was dark at that spot. He slammed on the brakes when he saw me run out in the road trying to grab her. I finally got the cat and dog safely back home.

That's scary too! Good thing you were seen by the driver. Just goes to show that we pet owners do anything for our pets without thinking of our own safety first. When I went in the water I had no idea how deep it was and I didn't care.

Thank God Pukah, Angel was there for her.I am glad that she is eating and getting the rest she needs.

Glad to hear that all ended well for you. My two westies aren't very good swimmers, and fortunately they are aware of it! They get their feet wet and they've had their fill.

I know how to do CPR on people, but never on a dog. I recently adopted a rescue dog about 6 mos ago. So after reading this thread, I thought I'd better learn what to do in case of an emergency. If you're interested, here is a link to a good source of information. There are also videos available on Youtube, but I'm having trouble getting them to open tonight.

almost a tragedy, she is so lucky...is good to know all this for be more careful when this stituations happen; i'm glad that Pukah is alright!

Thank God that all worked out well. It's bad enough our babies don't live long enough, but even worse when they go early or unnaturally. I don't have kids either, so my three dogs and two cats are my family.

How is Pukah doing tonite???? Check out the( Dog CPR) I have bookmark it so i can check it out.

If I'm going to lose my dog, I will be ballin' like a baby.

glad pukah survived,my dog just turned nine june 12th.i'd be devastated if anything happened to him.

Isn't it sad that when a pet turns seven, we worry about how many more years that he/she has left with us. Cherish every moment.

Amen!!!!! I don't think about there age anymore.Just the special times that i have with them.
