It amazes me how Neal, after doing this for so long, actually looks like he still enjoys his work.

I can't open it.

It was good on Revelation for me, not great though. But when I saw it in the Manila clips and Neal added his part at the end, the song was so powerful live with Arnel's vocals and just soared at the end thanks to Neal and his trusty guitar. 8) It just added that something extra to the song. I don't know if this clip is the new version or not SINCE I CAN'T OPEN THE LINK.

I find it odd that you can't open the link. Try pasting the link in a new browser window or opening it in firefox, if you haven't already tried this.

Finally. Sounded great.

The song is epic now to me. I love it. They better have this song in the Manilla DVD, or I will be mad, because that performance in Manila was flat-out amazing, gave me chills.

What do you mean by namesake? As far as I can tell, that's his sig LP... are you talking about the 80s Schon guitar or something?

About this song...

Postby 4ever4Steve » Wed Jul 01, 2009 9:33 am

..."What I Needed", it is a very emotional song. If you cannot relate to the lyrics, well; lucky you, you have led a blissfull life so far. But for those who have struggled hard to get rid of what demons plague them, and ruin their relationships, and not always being the person they could be...it's a love song to a new person in your life Could be a wonderful new GF (Like Lori has been for Neal), or for a girl, finding a loving man who helps and encourages, or perhaps it is about , our Lord, Jesus, who will always help us if we are sincere, and ask Him for help.
No matter, It is a stellar song, not sure if Neal (and Jon) wrote it together..but well done my lads, very well done!
This song should have been a monster hit, as well as "Walking Away From the Edge" I love both of these songs! It is possible these songs could save a life..in fact I know of one, after hearing WAFTE, signed himself into re-hab, and has been sober three years now! 8)
Thanks again guys! Journey Rules! :)

Peace&Love,
Anne

Yep, great post. What you say about this song, I just happen to get it, so it means a lot to me.

Missing something in my life
Searching for it day and night
Couldn't seem to get it right
'Til you walked my way
Leaving lovers one by one
Didn't like who I'd become
Couldn't face myself, I turn and run
Made me see that I could change

Out of my darkness
As I step into the light
We get a new day
Taking one step at a time

You were what I needed
I was falling
Hiding my emotion
You made me see the truth
Your love was what I needed
Hear me calling
Waiting for a lifetime
Girl, you were my rescue
All I needed was you

I used to always get my way
Told me that you wouldn't stay
Had to face it, what you had to say
If I wanted you
You tell me when I did you wrong
I guess I've known it all along
Cared enough and you stood strong
I believed in you

In my frustrations
Tried to become someone else
The years I've wasted
I'd been lying to myself

You were what I needed
I was falling
Hiding my emotion
You made me see the truth
Your love was what I needed
Hear me calling
Waiting for a lifetime
Hear me calling
What I needed
What I needed was you

In you I found shelter
How you believed in me, stood strong
You were there through my darkest hour
You lifted my spirit up
Brought out the best in me
And now I'll stand before you with all my love

You were what I needed
I was falling
Hiding my emotion
But you made me see the truth
Your love was what I needed
Hear me calling
Waiting for a lifetime
Girl you were my rescue
What I needed was you

I have become a big fan of WIN since the Manila concert. I also love WAFTE. What a beautiful song, so haunting. One of Steve Augeri's best while with Journey. to me.

It's sad that great songs don't get much air play, but I guess that's the price you pay when you make an exclusive deal with Walmart. With a big lable such as Sony there would be air play. I think I have this concept right, but it could be post Perry snubbing too. I can't explain how some songs that are pure crap, from some Johnny come lately get so many spins, while great newer Journey songs get so few.

Oh, you mean all those great songs off Arrival that got TONS of air play and promotion? Sony really did a bang-up job with that one! Wow.

I like Revelation, but if Sony didn't do anything for the far superior Arrival, what makes you think they'd do anything for Rev?

Could have, sure, but I dunno if they would have. Rev has done remarkably well, all things considered. I've already heard it on the radio a lot more than Arrival and even TBF (pound for pound, maybe not counting WYLAW)

These days? Not being 60 years old and having musical talent, for starters . It's amazing, you can hear 8 straight songs on the radio without a hint of guitar or even a real organic instrument in it. In the gym tonight, they had on the modern pop station and they were playing all those horrendous dance tunes that are popular right now and I just about couldn't take it. Couple that with some idiot who, when he wasn't flexing in the mirror, was hocking loogies in the most vocal possible manner, and I was ready to kill someone.

Like I said, I'm actually really surprised at how much I've heard Rev at various points over the last year in different places - not that I've heard it a lot, but I've heard AATY, NWA, and WDILYL at least 10 times each while out and about different places.

One of the best Journey songs to date, imho. This is similar to the MOA version except the end part. I don't know if it is intentional but so far, Arnel has not repeated the MOA ending in other concerts.

I love the intensity of this song....... and Neal, you are truly a guitar god.

For the past five years over here "Boys with guitars" has been all over the radio.. I was never a big fan... but with this "electro-pop" coming back into fashion.. I think I should had given it abit more attention.

It doesnt matter anyway, there is always myspace. Best place to go to look for new, fantastic artist.

I avoid terrestrial radio as much as possible, but sometimes you can't avoid it, like in the gym or riding in someone else's car. That's when I have to endure some awful, awful shit.

That Schon guitar, if I remember, had a lot of midi capabilities. I believe it was one of the first ones.
I seem to remember there was some kind of lawsuit against Schon for that guitar's design and functionality.

I may be wrong, but that's what I remember. I remember in the ROR special that he was demonstrating the coolness of the midi he had going.

Have you seen the signature Les Paul demo that he did? It's on youtube. Way Way cool guitar, but I hate that friggin' gold top. Ugly. Not sure
why peeps dig the gold top so much. Here's the Youtube of the LesPaul. LOVE the compressor!! I want one of thems!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP0o2T_dNFU
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.
