Arnel 2009

Postby sonorstks » Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:18 am

If you haven’t noticed from the Belgium Graspop link that was up yesterday and Switzerland youtubes that are
currently available...Arnel is kicking some serious ass right now. The tone of his voice, raw power and his ability
to shed the accent has been pretty amazing to say the least. This is an awesome time for him and the band.
Journey fan from way back. He is carrying on the Journey w/out a doubt.

Enjoy! 8)

... AND HAS BEEN DOING SO SINCE LAST YEAR

:)

The whole band seems to have dialed it up a notch or two.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I definitely want to go see them this year. I'm still not thrilled with some of the tuned downed songs, but I really like the new arrangements.

I too am a Journey fan from way back. I lost a bit of interest for a few years, I must admit, but it's been renewed. If Arnel can make a significant contribution to new material and it is widely embraced, they could become huge again. Journey has always done pretty well on the road, but there seems to be an uptick in interest this year and word is spreading. I can see the growth in Arnel. His confidence is up and he has that power in his vocals. The chemistry of the band is quite good too.

+1. Well said. Arnel has impressed definitely this year. And Neal looks very happy.

From Manila on I've been impressed. But this European tour was a joy to follow, and appreciated Neal's blogs. And that Graspop video shows a band that even at this stage of the game in their career are top-notch musicians with a lot of fire in their belly, who are going out on stage and giving it their all for the fans.

Not EVERY gig is detuned. It doesn't bother me at all- I think people blow this out of proportion.
These songs are high tunes and if it prolongs APs pipes, I'm all for it. The ONLY people who will know it are musicians
and musicians notoriously bitch about everything anyway, so big deal. The masses couldn't care less.
Had they done that with Augeri, it might've helped. Had they done it with Perry it might've helped as well.
It seems to me that Journey has finally opened their mind to "let's preserve the singer". They're doing the right thing if you ask me.

I don't believe this show was tuned down, but I've only heard the one track so...

All I know is that when I saw Journey in Seattle last year, I was blown away by the guy and he's deserving of the praise that he gets.

I think Arnel's doing excellent. He's pushing more and more for his own personal take on the dirty dozen, a rougher version. Hopefully, he'll continue down this road to success.

He is, however, not nearly the frontman Mr. Soto was.

I wish him success as well...but no, he's not as good a frontman as JSS.

Ok, that is not the way you normally think and post; I feel that I must ask.....who hijacked your account? Is the woman / man you sleep with a JSS loon? What you are claiming is the most ridiculous drivel I have seen come out of your keyboard. It is clear that you have temporarilly exited your paradigm just to fuck with people.

And obviously that is why he's still with Journey? Doh! I forgot, he got canned. Move along, there is nothing more to see here.

If you think Arnel is a better frontman then Soto you have to be blind.

Indeed.

This statement, and others like it, is what has converted me to the light side.

I was blind, brothers and sisters, but now I see!

Ok, now I get it. Yes, Soto is an excellent front man....just not the right one for Journey. I have to give you that. Maybe he is a better frontman for his genre of music.

I'm not sure why this is being discussed. He was "canned" because he was too good.

Saw him 4 times with Journey and I thought he did great! He's the only frontman that I've seen in concert with any group that I went to see more then once on a single tour.

Nice try.

The only way I'm going to agree with that is if Andrew tells me that.

You underestimate Andrew's patience and sense of humor. He'd never say such things and mean them.

But of course! That has to be the reason. I was declined for a job because I was "over qualified". Man, I'm really starting to understand now. This is good and everyone is making lots of sense. At first I thought you guys were too fast for me, but suddenly I've become enlightened. Thank you!
