Do you mean Barnsley in South Yorkshire, along the River Dearne, north of Sheffield? No, I don't think I'll be able to make it this year.

Yes the convention will be happening, at the Birdwell Club in Birdwell, just outside of Barnsley, on 17th October. We are lining up two bands to play during the day - one who includes some Journey material in their set, and one who plays almost exclusively Journey material. In addition there'll be the usual videos, music, quizzes, raffles and charity auction etc.

Full details will be issued shortly, when these details have been confirmed. We will also be advertising more widely this year as attendance last year was quite poor and many people claimed they didn't know about the convention.

I know where the Birdwell Club is.
It's just off junction 36 of the M1. Turn off the roundabout, bear left and it's on that main road on the left hand side. Easy to find. Car park at the back.

There is a guy who posts on here who is trying to build up the Club into a major rock venue - but I think he is meeting with a bit of apathy.
Which is a shame.
I'm so sorry but I've forgotten his name. He did post about it some time ago though. I remember that.

If it's a Saturday I won't be able to go.
Can't afford to cancel a Saturday night gig in this climate.

Of all the nice places in Yorkshire, Barnsley doesnt make the top 10. Although given the fact that its a worthy cause, and the company is good might well be worth checking out this year.

Its not actually IN Barnsley.
Look at Worsborough Bridge on the map - its closer to that than the town centre.

Not sure because if we ever gig in that area we drive home afterwards - we're near Junction 29 of M1 and that's near Junction 36, so it's not far enough away to warrant an over night stay.
And we won't be able to attend because it will be a Saturday night so I haven't looked into accommodation ......but seeing as it's you, I just googled Hotels near Worsborough - I thought you might find the links useful, and of course anyone else who may be travelling up for it..........

and these came up

Tankersley Manor Hotel and Spa - A QHotel (1 Mile)*
Backing onto moorland, Tankersley Manor Hotel + Spa sensitively incorporates a 17th century building with a modern hotel with many original features retained.
http://www.aboutbritain.com/hotels/hotel6724.asp

Brooklands Hotel (3 Miles)*
Brooklands Hotel is located in Barnsley, a beautiful and cultured town in Yorkshire on the fringe of the Pennines. Whether you stay for business or pleasure, this hotel meets your every need.
http://www.aboutbritain.com/hotels/hotel1228799.asp

New Country Inns @ The Bluebell Inn (3 Miles)*
A modern friendly 40 bedroomed hotel, located within 1 mile of Junction 37 of the m1.Our friendly hotel also has a bar and restaurant and meeting/banqueting facilities

Can't recommend any personally though - but that Tankersley one looks ok.

There'll be a good ol' Travelodge in Barnsley too I should think?

No probs.
I wish I knew the area better and could personally recommend somewhere.

Obviously, Barnsley isn't the jewel of Yorkshire, as Gin&TonicSky said...............but that one with a Spa looks like a nice way to spend a few hours!
