Kevin Cronin Bitches About Steve Perry Singing for White Sox

Okay, here's some more Loon bait. Does this hit closer to home than the bisexual penguin thread?

Kevin Cronin, who grew up in Oak Lawn (a suburb of Chicago) and graduated from Brother Rice High School, is lead singer for the rock band REO Speedwagon. And he was talking about the White Sox a bit this morning on Mancow Muller's show on WLS Radio (890 AM).

Cronin, 57, is a lifelong Sox fan. His idol was Luis Aparicio, and he's got a photo of the '59 World Series team with him in his dressing room, he said. Is that Sox fan enough for you?

Anyhow, Cronin expressed great disappointment over the team's 2005 World Series victory parade. At least when it came to the entertainment. "Who do they have there singing? Steve 'frickin' ' Perry from San Francisco," Cronin said.

Although I feel Cronin's pain about not being part of the celebration, it did make sense for Steve Perry to be there.

If you recall, the Sox' unofficial theme song that season was "Don't Stop Believin'," a hit song by Journey with Perry on lead vocals. Now, if the team's song had been REO's "Riding the Storm Out" or another one of their many hit songs, Cronin would have a legit beef.

REO, .38 Special, and Styx are playing a sold-out show tonight at Charter One Pavilion at Northerly Island. You know, where Meigs Field used to be before Mayor Daley attacked the runways late one Sunday night. I still wonder how he got away with that move.

Anyhow, I would love to be at the show tonight, but Little League has the Metsch family at an All-Star tournament, weather permitting. Here's hoping Kevin Cronin and all us Sox fans are happy with the results in Minnesota. The Sox need to win 2 of 3 games this weekend. Ideally, they will sweep the Twins, but that Roller Dome has been a house of horrors for the South Siders. Take two wins, count your blessings and enjoy the All-Star Break.

The show at Charter One Pavilion is sold out, 8k seats. Good job fellows. :D

They sold out the Nokia in L.A., last month also. Good to see these guys getting ticket sales despite no new material from any of them.

They almost sold out Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Saint Louis tonight, which holds about 18,000. There were only a few dozen seats available when I called there earlier today. They have about 8,000 seats and room for another 10,000 on the lawn. But if it rains you're screwed. I had lawn seats for Aerosmith there a few weeks ago and it stormed really bad - they postponed the show for 90 minutes and told everyone on the lawn to go to their cars and tune into some radio station. The lightning was really bad, so we just bailed out after watching 3 Doors Down. That was worth the $20 we spent on the lawn tickets.

I am happy to spend money to get seats under the roof, but my friends are cheapskates and they will only pay for lawn seats. But then you risk getting rained on, and if you get up your seat gets taken.

That's it? That's all he said?

I was hoping for a real feud to brew up.

They could go on celebrity death match and have a warble off.

They couldn't have used REO for the celebration parade anyway. There are time limits on these things and KC's long winded "storytelling" before his singing would have put the parade way behind schedule.

Or put them all to sleep.

"Way back 75 years ago when I was in high school, I got my ass kicked on a regular basis. Then I started playing the geetar and all the ladies fell at my feet, and the guys wanted to worship me. And that was the story behind this next song..."

Styx doesn't really sing that many of DeYoung's songs during their shows do they? Imagine if Journey only sang two or three Perry songs at their concerts.

Not Perry's fault, really, but I can see Cronin's point.

Voyager, the reason your penguin thread isn't getting the attention you feel it should is b/c you worded it all wrong. What you should have said was this:

"Steve Perry learns that the SF Zoo same sex penguin couple have split up. Steve Perry is reported to be very, very sad over this incident. Steve Perry is currently working with his associates to issue a formal statement on Fan Asylum.”

(I make a funny. Don't hit me.)

Shut up, Kevin, it was FOUR years ago. Awwww, they didn't ask you to sing, waaaaaaaah! For one thing, it wasn't any kind of planned entertainment where they specifically invited someone to come sing. There was no band or show or anything else, so what is he so bitter about? And why is he still bitter 4 years after the fact?

What a baby. But hey, Kevin, if you want to get up there and sing for exactly 10 seconds so that your fans can spend the next 4 years tearing you apart over it, then by all means, go right ahead.

p.s. - Kevin, make sure when you talk about where you're from, that you say "Oak Lawn" and not Chicago. You're embarrassing us. At least you're a Sox fan though. That pretty much explains your douchebaggery anyway.

I still maintain that if he didn't talk between songs they could fit 3-5 more songs into their set.

Maybe the biggest reason why I never cared for REO - Cronin can't keep his mouth shut.
Gawd, he's annoying.

Not that they ever would... but if they did.. the three songs would probably be DSB Faithfully/Open Arms and SW

I would'nt mind seeing 18 Augeri/Rev songs + Plus those three
