OT: Coincidence or Imagined? (Pink Floyd vs Foreigner)

I'm going out on a limb to say that Foreigner's I Want To Know What Love Is is "lifted" from Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb.

Coincidence or Imagined?

The starting of the tunes are similar, starts with the same cymbal sound to begin with. The tempo of the beat of "know what Love" is just faster. The vocals start softly, as well. Even the chorus has a similarity to it, wherein the intensity picks up, including the lyrics of the chorus "there is no PAIN, you are receding" vis a vis ""in my life there is heartache and PAIN" (inverted meaning!). Later on "I can't explain, you WOULD NOT understand" as opposed to "I know you CAN show me.

Lastly, the ending Solo of Gilmore, and the ending vocals and choir (of Foreigner's tune) have the same intensity.

Play both youtube's videos simultaneously, you'll notice there are indeed or rather obvious "lifted" ideas rather (Lifting isn't the right word I guess).

Thanks. I thought, I was WAY off.

I would not think that Mick Jones try to copy Floyd but the format of the tunes are just eerie to me. Granted there is no solo as such in IWTKWLI, yet I feel its no accident that possibly MJ was inspired by CN. Who knows.

Its interesting I feel, to consider the end Solo (of CN) is actually like a voice. You could count on Lou Gramm to exemplify incredible pitch as if to compete with a guitar!

Nontheless, both tunes Classics!

Ain't LSD a great drug? It will make your mind wrap in just about any direction and find similarities, where there were none. Shrooms too! Pass em boys........ 8)

So, you gave it a fair shake and realized it must be LSD. :P However, you are certain there is None? Nothing at all? :D

I think you are. I'm a huge fan of both songs (my ringtone is IWTKWLI) and while the intros have a similar feel, I don't see how it's a direct ripoff at all.

That's fine. I was trying to play Devil's Advocate a little. I love it though how both tunes talk about "Feel" and "pain", but even more so the intensity of both the tunes' endings. One is guitar in full flight dramatic sounds if you will, and the other vocals in full flight, with the choir to give it the drama as well.

Went through a fairly large Flloyd phase in like '94 when they were around on The Division Bell tour but can;t imagine doing it again...those albums are so boring.

All you have to do is play both the said tunes back to back or concurrently play both on youtube. Only one PF tune. 8)

I like division bell, although a lot of the songs are pretty similar and i actually listen to it to fall asleep mostly lol. but the live versions from the pulse DVD are a force to be reckoned with

Pulse is good. I've pared the Flloyd collection down to The Division Bell, Pulse and Echos (GH).
