According to CNN, it was only a few inches, so Andrew should be fine: http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/07/15/new.zealand.earthquake/index.html?iref=newssearch

The big deal from our perspective is that the early warning system actually works, and works very well. Many sighs of relief going around that it got a 'live' test without a natural disaster, and it looks like if we do get a big one, we'll get enough notification time to prevent a lot of lost lives.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

25 cm is 10 inches but 10 inches of water in your house or basement still isn't much fun though really not any life threatening danger.
CNN calls it 2 inches in Tasmania so maybe it was 25mm & no big deal.
When they talk tsunami sometimes the waves are 100 feet now that's scary if you live near the coast.
My parents house is 1800 feet above sea level 100 or so miles off the coast so they are pretty safe in Australia.

Hope the damage is minimal & covered by flood insurance as it could wipe out all your furniture & many possessions even at 10 inches.

for some reason a "25cm" tsunami makes me snicker like I did when I saw the Stonehenge scene in Spinal Tap....

Yeah, Texas. Well any place but California. The MR site would keep crashing because the small business that would be hosting his site would constantly be experiencing power outages. Because they'd be having their power cut off due to not having enough money to pay their light bill because the State of California keeps sending them IOUs. Fuckin' IOUs - incredible.

Yeah, Andrew needs to move. It’s too dangerous where he’s at. He really should move to the United States where it's safer. He could move to a nice safe west coast state like California --- NO, wait, they got earthquakes. Okay, then what about an eastern state like, say, South Carolina? -- NO, wait, they got serial killers. Hmmm... I'm thinking.... I'm thinking .... how about a southern state? He could move to a state with a nice warm climate like Florida? What could be safer than sunshine & orange juice? -- NO, wait, they got hurricanes. How about a good ole’ centrally located neutral territory state like Kansas? -- NO, wait, they got tornadoes. Let me see...... hmmmm...... Andrew could move to a beautiful picturesque northern state, like Maryland? -- NO, wait, they got SteveW2.

Oh heck, Andrew, stay right where you're at. It's safer.

No worries here. But about 30 mins after the warning we lost all power for 2 hrs....kinda spooky.

As for living here....I have thus far managed to survive living amongst 8 of the 10 deadliest spinders in the world, 9 of the 10 worst snakes.....poisonous jellyfish....Tassie Devils....rabid wombats....sharks...and fo course annual bushfires.

I'll stay put I think :P
