Same deal as Journey.

US rockers FOREIGNER are set to release a new 3-CD set of new music, remixed hits and live performances.
Entitled Can't Slow Down, the album will be available on September 29th via Rhino Entertainment.
The album features 13 new songs produced by Marti Frederiksen and Mark Ronson, the title track a nod to NASCAR and the band's appearance at this year's Samsung 500 in Texas.
The second disc remixes Foreigner classics such as 'Double Vision', 'Cold As Ice', 'Urgent', 'Hot Blooded' and 'I Wanna Know What Love Is'.
The third disc in the set is a DVD which culls performances of hits in 5.1 surround sound, plus footage from Foreigner's current European tour.
The collection will be sold exclusively at Walmart for $12. The band launches its US tour July 30th in Morristown, N.J.

Walmart crafting their deals again. What's with remixing of the hits thing? I don't get that. I didn't care for disc 2 of Revelation, overall. Hopefully Foreigner will put more effort into theirs. It's a good deal for the customer and the band though. You can't beat $12 for a new record and a DVD.

Thanks for posting. I'll be buying. Kelly Hansen brings it.

Just another loss leader to get people in the door. Foreigner will be
One and done with a boatload of cash to take with them. The problem is fans expect the next release to be just as cheap with all the same bonus material. Just can't happen. Notice Wal-Mart never uses the same artist twice. Eagles went 7X Platinum with their deal but haven't been asked back. The re-records are Wal-Marts way of making a point to major labels like Sony and Warner that own the original GH packages.
Some snippets from an article on the subject
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/ ... nts_10_cds
Wal-mart wants every CD you buy to cost less than ten bucks. And the nation's largest retailer -- which moved a quarter of a trillion dollars' worth of goods last year -- usually gets its way. Suppliers who don't accede to Wal-Mart's "everyday low price" mantra often find their products bounced from the chain's stores, excluded from being sold to the 138 million people who shop at a Wal-Mart store every week.
Along with other giant retailers such as Best Buy and Target, Wal-Mart willingly loses money selling CDs for less than $10 (they buy most hit CDs from distributors for around $12). These companies use bargain CDs to lure consumers to the store, hoping they might also grab a boombox or a DVD player while checking out the music deals.
While Wal-Mart represents nearly twenty percent of major-label music sales, music represents only about two percent of Wal-Mart's total sales. "If they got out of selling music, it would mean nothing to them," says another label executive. "This keeps me awake at night."

At least put as much effort into producing both discs. The production quality of Revelation's second disc was, for the most part very poor. Those Fisher Price keyboards they seemingly used annoyed me to no end. I know it was just the shotty production but have some pride, these are your Greatest Hits that you are re-recording here.

I think this type of shit is blasphemy. It makes me want to puke. I didn't like it when Journey did it, and I don't like it now. It serves one purpose and one purpose only - to make a statement to the lead singer that your vocals aren't what made our sound, and that we can do just as good without you.
Bullshit! Next thing you know, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones will be putting out a WalMart special minus Robert Plant and Mick Jagger.
I don't know about anyone else, but to me this type of stuff just cheapens the entire band and makes them come across as desperate, greedy, and bitter towards their former singer.

Hansen's got the goods.
Def. looking forward to this.
I assume "re-mixes" is just a marketing term for cannibalizing the past?
Unlike some, I was never against re-dos of the dirty dozen just on principle.
I actually thought the idea of JSS putting his own signature on the classics was a necessary evil if the band were to start over.
What we ultimately ended up with, however, is far worse than I ever imagined.
The chosocky diction of Arnel is just too much on that disc.

I dissagree Voyager, I think it's more of a thing Wal-Mart is making these bands do to push the product. I think it's like "We'll give you X amount of dollars, with the stipulation that you give us a greatest hits cd to bring in the casual fan". I could be wrong, but from what I recall with the Journey deal, it was the only way Wal-Mart would make the deal with them. To me it makes sense from a business standpoint. It also gives consumers more bang for the buck! I can't WAIT to get my hands on that release... who knows... maybe they've done something cool and different to the songs?

If I heard someone singing "Cold As Ice" or "Feels Like The First Time" on a record with anyone other than Lou Gramm singing it, I would run away with my fingers in my ears. It's no less sacreligious than someone going back and re-writing the fucking Bible.

I don't see anything wrong with any of this really. It's just another record company (WM) promoting a band. It's marketing and capitalism (being American!) at it's best. If this were 20 yrs ago and it was Columbia, CBS, Sony, whoever, who cares? I mean, if Peaches or Tower were to do this in their heyday, then fine. Thing is, they were too stupid to stay in business.
Does KMart or Target do this? Why not? A retail outlet is just a retail outlet. Who cares what the name is?
WM has the bucks and the balls, so why shouldn't bands take advantage of it?
If we/you don't like it, then don't buy it. Use your non-buying consumer power to put them out of business.

Neil Diamond and Sugarland are doing the CD/DVD exclusive package with Walmart also, both releases are in August for the same price of $12. Sugarland's is a new album while Diamonds looks like a stripped down greatest hits package. Both will have live concert DVDs.

wal-mart serves several purposes to draw the consumer in to buy this music.
well known band.very well priced.two or three discs for twelve dollars.you get new material and as an added bonus not all but certain people want to hear the new versions of old classics.they also figure that the person might not even know the popular songs are redone so the person figures wow i get all these greatest hits plus new stuff and an extra disc too.

I like Foreigner's first three albums. I have those on CD. That's all I need by those guys.
You should take that $12, add another ten, and put it towards the new Legacy edition of Def Leppard's Pyromania just for the bonus '83 live CD.

Because it was so good it mindfucked you. It did that to me too and I almost threw it out, then I listened to it a couple more times, then I listened to greatest hits a couple more times, only to realize, that for the most part, Pineda made those songs better, not worse.

You're smoking crack. The guy was still having diction issues on that disc. He was trying so hard to sound like the original vocal he was actually over pronunciating some of the words. Mix that in wth atrocious production job done by Cain and you have mediocrity at its best.

Yes, you usually can tell if someone is either stoned off their ass on drugs, drunk or just flat out wacked due to what they say . In your case, since no one can stay stoned 24/7 I disagree with GB and pick option #3.

Awesome! I love hearing the band of today doing the tunes of yesterday. Puts a nice spin on things. Plus it gives you an idea what to expect in a live performance vocally. Hansen does indeed bring it, 12.00 is a great deal for this package.

They did a nice stripped down version of "Say You Will." Hopefully, they'll do the same with the other songs and not just a replica like Journey did.
