Daughtry moves 269k first week, while Jackson album sales finally begin to ease up just a little bit.

Rock band Daughtry have scored the top-selling album in the US - taking the title from Michael Jackson.

The group, fronted by 2006 American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry, went straight to the top of the Billboard 200 album chart with Leave This Town.

It sold 269,000 copies in the week ending 19 July, according to music sales tracker Nielsen Soundscan.

Jackson's Number Ones album, which sold 192,000 in that period, had shifted the most copies every week since his death.

Jackson's albums have not been in the Billboard 200 because it only features new releases.

His albums continue to dominate the Billboard Top Pop Catalog Album which is made up of older releases.

But there is evidence of a slowing down of the initial sales rush following his death on 25 June.

The top 12 slots are taken by Jackson or albums recorded by The Jackson Five, but the 192,000 copies sold of Number Ones, which tops that chart, is down 45% on the previous week.

At number two is The Essential Michael Jackson, which sold 125,000 - down 15% on the previous week - while the third spot is taken by Thriller, which sold 114,000 - down 57%.

On Sunday, it was revealed that Michael Jackson had topped the UK album chart for the third straight week.

The Essential Michael Jackson is at number one for the second week running while Number Ones spent the previous week at the top.

If he had done better on the show than he would have been more under their control and scrutiny. I don't think he would have been as successful...

If Daughtry would have thrown in a second disc of re-records or remixes, the Album would have made Gold after only one day on the market. I guess CDs do still sell.

There are something like 7 different configurations of the CD with bonus material.

Anybody looking for the bonus songs can PM me... I think its stupid to have to buy different disks for extra songs...

And the record labels wonder why people download music....

Increase the price by one dollar, put all the bonus songs on a second disc and this album would have gone Gold in one day.

Daughtry will be at the Orlando HOB next Sunday night and tickets were only selling for $20 a piece. I was surprised they were so cheap. I of course waited too long to buy them because I was out of town at the time and they were sold out the first day no surprise :x Maybe next time.

He deffo was - and Mr Cowell seems oblivious to the selling power of rock music - he fucked up there. I get fed up hearing them blow on about shit like Westlife selling 30million albums. Christ. Back In Black is over the 40m mark alone - think about that Simon......

I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting, but I'm not that thrilled with it. To me it sounds like a bunch of the other rock stuff that's out there these days, nothing unique. I loved Chris on AI - I'm not saying he's not very talented, and has talented musicians in the band - just nothing stands out for me. I'll listen a few more times, I may change my mind.

Well, I think this thread confirms what most of us already knew....sorry Pete Townsend, but rock is officially dead.
