Perry as a Farmer?

On my drive back from Southern California yesterday, I saw an exit on I-5 for Hanford/Lemoore.
It just so happened to be the same exit as a popular restaurant called Harris Ranch. The sign
said 34 miles to Hanford, 27 to Lemoore. I never noticed it before. It was 107 degrees when I stopped. It
was too many miles to drive into either town, but I could see the area to the east. The whole area is a huge farming community,
with nut trees, olive trees, tomatoes, garlic, and other crops. Just seeing the desolation of the area and where
Perry was as a kid made me think about the CBC radio interview, about what Perry said about his mother encouraging him to be
a singer instead of a farmer. I laughed to myself when I got this image of Perry driving some huge air-conditioned John Deere tractor
out in the field, singing at the top of his lungs and no one around to hear it.
What might have been, but for destiny in all of our lives.
