OT: Dokken Story Time

I went out to the Dakota Rock Fest in Sioux Falls last weekend to see Dokken, FireHouse, Bret Michaels, Skid Row, and Dokken. Did I say Dokken?

Although I was exhausted after Moondance and a bit hesitant to drive another 900 miles, the organizers allowed me to cover the event on my website so I couldn't resist. The show was great, nothing short of a classic Dokken experience. I did a full write-up on all the bands with photos included: http://melodicrockconcerts.com/?p=1235

Now for the back story! I came with a clear intention of finally meeting Don Dokken, an obvious personal favorite of mine. Before the show I had my eye on a blue van and could have swore that I saw Don poke his head out. I turned around a second later to see that he had just walked behind me and up the stairs to the stage. Rats, my chances weren't looking great.

Then after the show, he came down the same set of stairs - and I was there. I chatted him up for a little bit and he was very nice to talk to. He signed my "Up from the Ashes" CD and was quite talkative with other fans that began to gather around. It was a great little FAN moment for me that I won't soon forget. I had lots more to ask and say to him, but I hope to get all of that out in a phone interview on the website very soon.

BTW, as you will read in the review, Mick Brown is back touring with the band and they are sounding great. Don was his usual self with no exceptions!

Very cool man, Dokken is one of the few bands that I'd like to see, that I haven't yet. Thanks for the story.

I know, that's got Don written all over it.

I heard Dream Warriors the first two times I saw Dokken, but they didn't play it at this show. "Walk Away" is another one that would be fun to hear live.

SWEET!!!!! They still have yet to come anywhere close to me in concert. It's really getting obnoxious. Matt, Don signed my copy of "UFTA" also years back during the Shadowlife tour, and it was cool hearing his stories about recording it. Very nice and talkative guy! DON!!!!!!

Don's not coming near you. Word got back to him about you and your Asian Persuasion. You are Dead to Dokken, he knows you not.

They weren't anywhere close to me either - you just gotta get in that car and start driving until you hear the music!

:)

I think Don has tried to lay off the vices, but he is who he is and he seems to be content. He has smoked a cigarette while tapping his foot on an amplifier 3 out of the 3 shows that I've seen. That's a hard habit to break.

He seems to change his hair style with every show, not just every tour, which I find interesting. There are photos of him from different shows last year and he hardly looks like the same person.

Yeah!! I've still got Dokken stuck in my head almost a week later, but that's not a bad thing.
