Someone posted this a while back, didn't like it then and don't like it now. Arnel's timbre doesn't quite do Augeri's original interps justice. Apparently, Arnel can cover every one out there besides SMFA (yes I just said that). It's also totally shitty they took out Neal's great post-chorus melodic lead guitar that characterized the original.

I didn't really care for the original or this one.

I personally like this version better. I like the tone of his vocals better overall. I think the production sounds much better on this version too. There are a couple of dictation errors that bother me, but again... I like this one better. Just my opinion of course, and I know I'm in the minority here.

Come on Jim, the guitar got fuckin castrated! Generations was a shitty production though, I will definitely give you that. That's what keeps me from going back and listening to the stuff that is worth listening to on that uneven album more often... FITH, TPIYH, Never Too Late, Beyond The Clouds...

Love the song and think it's perfect for radio play, but it's not playin.

Generations on the whole was a dog of an album , but the first three songs were fine Journey songs. whist arnel sounds fine on them, bothe FITH Aand PIYH sound better in Augeri's original voice.

If "Rocky Balboa" came out in '09, then they should have used this track in the movie. I can see him getting in his van, speeding down the highway, while in remembrance of Adrian. (Almost to the effect in the flashback of Apollo in Rocky IV.) This def has a Rocky theme sound to it.

I truly believe that the originator of a song will usually sound the best on it...unless the person covering a song really brings something different, personal or extremely strong to it. These re-records (of Augeri's material) did not bring anything really new or exceptional to the songs. In fact, they seemed to neuter the shining moments. And unlike the "classics" on Disc 2, these songs were relative unknowns so they did not need to stick to the script like they felt they did on the rest...

Faith in the Heartland I like Augeri's version better, but I enjoy Arnel's too.

Both are good.
The Generations version sounded a little more dated.
Neal's guitar solo here is more complex .
As with the original FITH, Augeri wins on vox.

No, it's not weird. I had gotten away from Journey for a long time, and got back into them in 2006. I was going to see them, thinking it would be with Augeri, in 06, but when I got to the venue, I heard he wouldn't be singing, so I never got to see him with the band. And with that, I never got to connect with Augeri like a lot of other people did. I think he was great with Journey though.

Me to,I saw it on Direct Tv when it aired I about shit a fuckin brick when I heard him do SP ways for the first time.I recorded it and watched it over and over again all weekend,I went on ticketbastards and got tickets to the next available show on the east coast,I was a diehard fan,they were some really goodtimes,met some good people to.I saw it thru to the next to that last show in hershey,they took away the tapes, he was having trouble but it was passable,two nites later Jeff was there, As a fan I feel really let down from a band that i thought way to highly of. that wont happen again,Steve gave Journey a good run though,Im glad im got I to see it happen

I just noticed that every time you guys talk about SA, there seems to to be a unanimous voice on how good a person he is.

Augeri had the (mis)fortune of having to sing one of the most vocally difficult catalogs in rock.
