Looks very intriguing, for any of you Foo Fighter types out there.

A long-rumoured supergroup featuring Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones are to play their first show.

The band, called Them Crooked Vultures, announced the Chicago gig via Facebook.

They also launched a MySpace page, adorned with logos from the artists' normal bands - Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age and Led Zeppelin.

Former Nirvana drummer Grohl first mentioned the project in Mojo magazine four years ago. The band have yet to release any music.

The first chance to hear their material is likely to be at their live debut, at Chicago's 1,100-capacity Metro venue on Sunday, 9 August.

Grohl and Homme have long been friends, often cropping up on each other's recordings.

Most notably, Grohl stepped in to record and tour with Queens Of The Stone Age after original drummer Gene Trautmann quit in 2001.

He played on their biggest UK chart hit No One Knows, which reached number 15 in 2002.

Jones also collaborated with Grohl, contributing to the fifth Foo Fighters album, In Your Honor in 2005.

Speaking to Mojo magazine that year, Grohl revealed the initial plans for Them Crooked Vultures.

"The next project that I'm trying to initiate involves me on drums, Josh Homme on guitar, and John Paul Jones playing bass. That's the next album. That wouldn't suck."
