2009 Tour

Just wanted some feedback on the US tour so far. On the Asian and European part of the tour it seemed like Arnel and the Band were on fire. Now, some 17 dates? into the States shows Arnel is sounding tired (from the youtubes I've seen) and in need of a rest. I am also very underwhelmed with the tuning down. Here are some suggestions I have.
Arnel needs to stay in the States and acclimate to the weather if they are going to have the long tours.
Cut out either the tour here or overseas.
Cut down the number of shows and get back in the right tune. What they're doing now doesn't seem to be helping.
I plan to see them at the beginning of October and hope they get things sorted out.
Thoughts?

I want them to come to Michigan. They had it on their schedule a couple months ago, then it was removed. I don't have a current schedule & the last time I looked neither did their official website. (Which baffles me, I might add.)
It's too late for THIS tour but I think they should play ether the states or overseas but not both & then alternate every couple of years. That is, unless they want to tour a solid year which Schon could probably do, but not Arnel. The singer gets the raw end of that deal.

Limit the shows to 50 shows a year. If Neal doesn't need the money, why run you're boy into the ground; what 's the reasoning behind this?
Make him show up in the states a month before the tour starts so he can acclimate himself and relearn English (drop the accent)
No more stepping down. With a new album coming out, Are you going to present those new songs a halfnote lower the first time they are played live? Just record them a step down to begin with if you are going to go that route.
The last few shows, Pineda is sounding more like Perry did when he was on the FTLOSM tour. Perry was 45 at that time, what is Arnel, 41? Some thing needs to be done before this becomes a train wreck.
Is Journey still selling tickets? Yes. They were also selling tickets with Augeri and Soto at the helm. Kill this goose though and it's game over, simple enough.

Journey is coming to the VanAndel Arena in Grand Rapids with Heart on August 25th. Tickets are on sale now.

The first thing my daughter said to me when we went to see them August 7th, is that the band looked tired. I didn't notice it that much, but they did look a little less animated than usual.
The thing I did see that I've never seen before, is Neal getting down on his knee and slapping hands with the audience. I thought that was pretty cool.
I'm sure touring is exhausting, and doing it two years in a row, with all the guys 40 through 60, has to be exceptionally tough.

Where are you getting that information? They were set for Detroit on September 26th. What happened?????? Grand Rapids may be too far away unless I get a motel room & just spend the night. I don't so much mind driving 150 miles to get there..... it's the 150 miles I'd have to drive home that's stopping me.

This was supposed to be a shorter tour than last year's but it seems to be getting close to the same length. If they go back on the road next spring to promote a new album, they'll just be doing what they did with Augeri. I don't think stepping down is helping. Some of his performances last week were the worse I've seen. He's all over the place vocally with Faithfully, and that used to be his trademark song last year. I heard fatigue in his voice last year but that was September and he was still singing in the proper key.

They have been talking about it on the radio and it was in the newspaper. There are several motels in the area. I can try to get some more information for you if you like.

As long as there is a YMCA, I'm sure he'll be alright. He looks like he enjoys spending time in the pool.

Yep again I like Arnel alot when he's on but when he's not it is awful. Steve Perry toured tirelessly for 8 solid years and people still give him shit. Not too many people, or I mean NO ONE could hold up as long as he did. Hell we are lucky he even had a voice left for FTLOSM.

You would think, after this many years and lead singers, that they would freakin' cut back on the touring some!

Thanks, but don't go to any trouble. I'll Google it. I gotta find a couple people to go with first. Now no more posting for me today. I gotta get back to the archives.

The Boys were awsome at the Pala shows,Arnel was in Top Form.
You have to remember/Moondance,Freezing Cold.Memphis a couple day's ago Blistering How with bad humity.
The heat will take its toll on the band and so will the humity.
It is hard to breathe, let alone sing when it is hot and Humid, even when it's cold.
Journey is doing just fine,so is Arnel.

I don't see how they're touring him into the ground. He's only done one tour, last year's, and now this year's. They're trying to introduce a new singer. Re the amount of dates for this concert I don't think it's too many and it's spread out a little better re a few breaks. But I agree get rid of some of these smaller gigs. Actually, some on here complained they were undertouring this year regarding the amount of dates and saying that Steve P. and Steve A. toured way more dates and blaming Arnel for less dates and now they're saying it's too many dates. Oh, well.

These were the performances from last week that we were talking about. Is this from down tuning or fatigue?
Listen how Arnel shifts the melody around in Faithfully, he used to kill this song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trXALA1Jl6I
The scream he does near the end of this on BGTY is terrible, and it sounds a bit slow.

If we can hear the fatigue in his voice he's not fine. He needs a rest. They are taking some time off now, so I hope he get's well rested but a week isn't quite enough. He might need about 13 years to recoup.

I wonder how many concerts that we have all gone to thru the years...some permanently etched in our minds as "life altering" would be systematically shot down in flames with the advent of youtube?
Sometimes I wish we never had it...I mean youtubes of all these shows has become old and tired to me...and I am as guilty as the next person about posting them.
Go to the show...have some adult beverages...rock out...go home with your memories.....this band is WORTH that small gamble.

Not a skeptic. I just wonder why Arnel seems to struggle when they get to the States. The de-tuning was supposed to help and yet here we are talking about Arnel's voice again. Same as last year. I hope Im wrong and that he sounds great when I see them.

Youtube is a double edged sword. When the performance is on, it's the greatest invention ever. When a performance is off, then it's youtube's fault for being such a shitty medium.
If you haven't seen Arnel, go to at least one show. Prices are dirt cheap compared to last year's, but then again you're not getting the same package. I had my one and done last year. It's only 35 bucks or so this year for the cheap seats. If it sucks, all you've lost is some beer money.

Tom, you might be onto something. When my wife and I went to see Journey last summer, the sound quality in the venue left a lot to be desired but that didn't keep us from having a great time.

I can't tell. It sounded right to me. The first song of the concert, after The Journey (Revelation) and Majestic, of course was Separate Ways. Cain didn't have his synth set right or something, and it sounded like he was playing a playskool keyboard.

Other than that, they were pretty flawless. The sound wasn't the best in that room, but I don't fault the band for that.

That must be the same one he used for Disc Two of Revelation.
