Question I always wondered about

I was thinking, does the Journey team tape every show? Does the band watch their performances on the road and tweak things and work on getting better as the tour goes on as far as sound and presence is concerned? Do they know of the bad nights and the good nights that come via the grueling roads via tape?

Personally, i don't think they care. They assume they have their legacy sound back, and are raking in the duckets. Seems to be all they care about, nowadays.

Memo: I'm not trying to stir shit. Please note that.

There used to be soundboards for every show. I don't know if that is still the case but I would think so, I think that is a common practice with most groups. Video wise, I highly doubt that they tape much at all.

Yeah, and if they actually cared about their fans they would make those soundboards available via their website in the form of key fobs, or flashdrives shortly after each show.....that would actually curb these bootleggers.

Can I get a witness?!

I used to assume bands recorded every show b/c there was a soundboard there so why not but apparently that's not the case.

I don't think so, but could be wrong. When I was in AC with them, during sound check, Neal told Elson, "let's tape this one" after I asked him to. I don't think they do it every show though.

Some bands, like Bruce and U2 both record and film every show. As 13 said, they should record every show, but if there is a fuckup, and the boot gets into the wrong hands, then you have the bad leak out there for everyone to hear.

Why wouldn't you tape every show.

Even despite the obvious efforts at maintaining quality control...and i'm sure they're all about presenting a quality performance....but regardless, who knows when you'll need to leak lip-syncing material to sandbag your lead singer?

Hmmm...lead singer is sick today, so do we cancel or just play the tape? hmmm...well, it really is about the money, so just play the damn tape! LOL

After reading a few interviews that Neal gave, I notice he's whined a few times about not winning Grammies and things like that. Awards seem to be of importance to him. Knowing that lipsyncing allegations wold be the final straw when it comes to any consideration for the R&R HOF, I just can't see him letting something like that leak out. I think it bugs hims a little bit that he didn't get inducted into the hall with Santana like Gregg did.

Of course, he wouldn't. And I think you're right, it probably does really bug him about the Santana deal.

He has every right to be pissed. He's played on albums that have sold in the millions, and is one of the greatest guitarists of all time! Not only in Journey and Santana, but in Bad English, as well as his countless recording sessions with some of the biggest stars in the industry. If anyone has earned the right for awards and Grammies... it's this man. I'm not talking about him personally, just professionally. He should be in the Hall of Fame too, but that's a whole other story!

Yes they do. It's all digitial now days, so all shows get recorded automatically. Granted what they do with it is anybody's guess. I remember reading somewhere that Neal likes to hear his solos after a show.

He was nominated for one of his solo works. Why do you think he is being snubbed? What's your take on things.

Fro should be in the HOF for the outro of WCN if nothing else. Perry for having one of the best voices in rock (and for rescuing Journey from being soon forgotten).

Foreigner however will beat them both to it.

That would be sweet if they got in. Having those big muscle cars on stage when they performed. That's Rock and Roll, right there.

Neither Foreigner or Journey will ever be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Find me when I'm 70 and if either of those bands are in the RNR HOF I will buy you a nice crab dinner.

Nobody let any tapes leak to sandbag Steve Augeri. There was a theory within the Journey camp at the time I was in the wings, but it's such a tenuous web of casual associations there's no way I'd get into it here.

Regardless of what anyone says I have NO belief in the idea that Journey in any way had ANYTHING to do with letting the tapegate scandal get out on the internet.

In Journey's case, Tapegate was the last thing they needed to show up on Rolling Stone's blog. A final nail in the coffin, perhaps.

If they did HOF nominations by fan petition, Judas Priest would have knocked the door down, those guys have almost twice the amount of signatures that Journey has. Even Alice Cooper has quite a few.

I will guarantee you this....

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, established through Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone magazine, will go onto exploring many other genres of music, or those parading as "rock and roll" before they acknowledge any 80's "corporate rock" bands such as Journey, REO, Foreigner, and the like. There will be a Yemeni Easy Listening Rapper in the rock and roll HOF before Journey is ever recognized.

Give it 30 years, and maybe you'd see the band get a nod.

Did you ever see Grizzly Man? Where Werner Herzog listens to that tape of Timmy Treadwell being torn apart by that big, mean grizzly, and he tells Treadwell's girl to destroy the tape?

I've destroyed that tape....Just let it be known that there are no simple answers......

Yeah, it was one of Treadwell's recent girlfriends, but the one who had the actual tape was a tape owned by one of Treadwell's old girlfriends and longtime friends.
