OT: Finally have a/c again.

Postby Rick » Fri Aug 21, 2009 5:46 am

Tuesday about 7pm, I'm walking through this dinky apartment, and it feels a little on the warm side. So I go to the thermostat, and that sucker is already sitting on 65. So I thought  . I put my hand over a vent, and there is nothing cool about the air coming out. So I called the office, which was closed, and left a message that the air wasn't working. They had the "on call" maintenance guy call back, and he came by about an hour later. Couldn't fix it. Said the compressor wouldn't run. We had company, and we just all sat here playing Pictionary, drinking beer and sweating it out. At bedtime, Debbie and Neelee (niece) stayed elsewhere, and I stayed here to look after the animals and have some peace and quiet. :D

Wednesday they played around with it all day long. Couldn't fix it. Said the outside unit had to be replaced. Won't have one until noon on Thursday. Debbie called the office and said "I'm not staying here, I'm going to go get a hotel room and you're paying for it." The manager said we can't do that, but you can stay in the "model" apartment. Which is what they did. I stayed here and looked after the animals and enjoyed the piece and quiet. :D

Today they finally got the new outside unit, which is twice as big as the old one, all hooked up and running and by 1:30 we had air.

What I found puzzling was, the guy didn't vacuum the system. Just hooked up the new unit, charged it and headed to his next call. I even asked him why he didn't vacuum it, and he said "Bah, there's not enough air in there to do anything." I'm thinking "Ok, Zoomer."

It's cooling very well. Actually better than it ever has, but if you don't vacuum it first, it decreases the lifespan of the entire system. Vacuuming it removes all the air and moisture. Which, if left in the system, when the refrigerant is added, causes a chemical reaction that produces an acid that, eventually destroys the entire planet. Or maybe just that a/c system. But still. :?

I'm just glad that for the first time in 3 days, I'm not sweating. It was about 88 degrees in here, which to some, might be a nice day at the beach, but it sucks in an apartment that has no ocean breeze. ;)
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

So, can we assume that the majority of noise created in your domicile is emanated by one "DEBBIE"?

Oh yikes. Dallas in August with no A/C.

First thing that came to mind was Sheridan's quote: "If I owned Hell and Texas, I'd rent out Texas and live in Hell."

Glad things are fixed. :D

Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

There are two things that cracked me up most about this thread...........

1. It sounds like Rick knows enough about his a/c that he should have fixed it himself............LOL! Micro-manager

2. That he understood SteveW's first post without skipping a beat.........I had to read it twice to get it myself!

It was about 88 degrees in here, which to some, might be a nice day at the beach, but it sucks in an apartment that has no ocean breeze. ;)

What cracked me up was that on Tuesday night you enjoyed some peace, and on Wednesday night you enjoyed some piece. LOL

It's been too hot to sleep much, so please excuse the poor grammar. It's nice in this place now though. I intended on taking a nap this afternoon, but it never happened. I'm off this week, so I'll get caught up. That's not a promise that my grammar will improve though.

If you accept Steve's request and let him come over to use your shower, I'm sure some arrangement can be made with him in regards to him hooking you up with some grammar lessons.
