Why does Neal never get the recognition he deserves?

In UK Classic Rock this month there is a feature on the 100 greatest guitar players of all time. They asked great guitarists to name their favourites and the list was compiled.
He's nowhere to be seen. Hasn't even been asked to comment on other 'great' guitarists.
He is clearly a great player. His style is recognisable. He's sold millions of 'units' all over the world. So why is he not classed as one of the greats?
I know everyone has different tastes, but a top ONE HUNDRED and he isn't there? It makes me really angry.
