In UK Classic Rock this month there is a feature on the 100 greatest guitar players of all time. They asked great guitarists to name their favourites and the list was compiled.

He's nowhere to be seen. Hasn't even been asked to comment on other 'great' guitarists.

He is clearly a great player. His style is recognisable. He's sold millions of 'units' all over the world. So why is he not classed as one of the greats?

I know everyone has different tastes, but a top ONE HUNDRED and he isn't there? It makes me really angry.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous that he's never included among the greats. Especially not in something that lists the top 100. I'm sure a lot of it stems from the fact that it's "not cool" to like Journey.

It makes me very angry.

He has a beautiful sound, a distinctive style but never gets a mention.

That was all it said.

I emailed the mag and gave them a bollocking but they have ignored me.

Unfortunately, he's cursed with playing for a band who was thought of by many as being nothing more than a hit machine. Regardless of how well he plays, it's hard for many critics to look beyond that.

Ok, now it's all becoming clear. Neal is so good that he doesn't chart. He's so far out there nobody can say anything. There is too much elbowing at the top of the chart, so just leave Neal out there in his own galaxy.

This is what happens when you decide that Open Arms is indispensable and must be performed during every single show.
