Setlist for 2010

With a new album under their belt, in 2010 Journey will be playing the bigger venues, with an opening act I would think. With a sixteen song setlist (shorter playing time because of opening act) and subtracting all the jam session/solo stuff, Which 12 or 13 songs do you want to see on the setlist along with the new stuff. We know they'll play certain songs everynight regardless so what should the rest of the show include?

I included DSB in my selections only because I can't see them ever doing a show without it.

NWA
OTY
ATL
SHML
WIN
EOTB
CR
WITS
SW
DSB
Faithfully
AWYWI

I was thinking that one too but I guess it's too much of a pop song for Neal's liking. It's loads better than LTS in my opinion.

No way they play bigger venues dude. They are playing decent barns now, and IMHO, they can't go bigger than where they are- and that's ok. They are no longer an embarrassment.

However, fuck the opening act. I will admit right now, their catalog is powerful enough to take up 2 hours. No one wants to see Eddie Money, Starship, REO Gleewagon or fuckin 38 Special. Give me a fuckin break. Those bands are mighty fine additions- for the carnival circuit. Journey has a real chance to distance themselves from the shit they have been long attached to. To do that, they need to think bigger, and I don't necessarily mean play bigger venues.

What they should not do is tour next year. Too much saturation. Folks (not you clowns), need a break from fuckin Journey. Make the fans miss you, take your Goddamned time and make a decent, FRESH sounding album and tour in 2 years.

As for set lists, you know exactly what they will play in 2010, 2014 or 2056. THAT they need to change up, big time.

If they play the extended solo like they did in the 80's Neal will be in heaven. To me, this is one of their greatest performances ever. Everyone shines...especially Perry and Schon.

So, do like Bon Jovi and do a hundred show tour every other year with downtime in between?

Look at Schon's face at :40 mark. Looks at Perry like he is a Million Dollar bill.

I might kill myself if they played Send Her My Love. And they need to drop all the piano/keyboard solos. They're ghey. So much so that if I have to listen to any more of them, I might have the urge to start peeing sitting down.

Man, they look relaxed in that clip. They seemed to really enjoy themselves in all the Japanese concert videos I've seen. No fickle fans to worry about, I guess.
The best part about that show at Kosenihenken Hall? No Open Arms!

Not too big on Who's Crying Now or After the Fall. Glad you added Message of Love. Not enough people know that song, and it rocks. The Party's Over would be a great addition- a deep cut for the faithful. Also glad you left out LTS. That song has been known to cause psychotic breaks.

Are you nuts? Schon and Deen would relapse with that much free time on their hands. I hope not, but it's a lot more possible when you have not much to do.

Oh, they'll tour, ... and tour. Pineda's on the short leash but this little resuscitation will only last until their next album.

Their little golden goose won't be a novelty next year unless they follow through. If they crap another Generations on us, they'd better schedule a lot of Far East shows.

They should break loose from the rest of the nostalgia bands and have a fresher band tour with them.... be a good way to get in touch with younger audiences and all that jive.... or if not a fresher band, a newer, not-so-well-known melodic rock band.

For example, it'd be tight to see Journey tour with Anberlin or The Killers.... or maybe a hair-revival band like Airbourne or Bang Camaro. Or a prog band like Pure Reason Revolution. Or Pride of Lions or something. There's so much more that they could be compatible with than just Styx, REO Speedwagon, and so on.

One of the few peers that they haven't toured with yet. That would indeed be epic.

Hell, why not Winger? That'd be sick.

Europe 8)

Ok, so here is a concept I was just tripping about.

Bad English / Journey

Regroup BE, have them open and play the hits for about 90 minutes, then a half hour intermission and bring out Journey for another 105 minutes. Would anyone else be onboard with this idea?

Hell yeah dude. I'd dig that.

That concept would also be sweet for Soundgarden/Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave. Have SG and RATM both do a one hour set, then have an intermission and a final one hour set of Audioslave material.

My Dream Journey Setlist

I agree with Deano on scraping opening acts for Journey. In general I think opening acts suck and it's a cheap way out for the bands to shorten their setlist when they haven't had any new material in awhile. Now if two great bands "shared" an event, that would be different but certainly not Eddie Money or 38 Special or any of those other crappy acts that are way past their glory days. I also agree that Journey needs great new material...if I were Journey, I'd swallow their pride and beg Steve Perry to come back for a reunion tour, now that is what I want to see! However, I do love classic Journey songs and not so much the new stuff, except for "A Place in Your Heart." I'll be waiting for a new album to blow me away...

If I were to attend a Journey concert, this would be my dream setlist...

Separate Ways
Who's Crying Now
Wheel in the Sky
A Place in Your Heart
Send Her My Love
Faithfully
Anyway You Want It
I'll Be Alright Without You
Lights
Ask the Lonely
Open Arms
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'
Only the Young
Don't Stop Believin' (Encore)

Triumph would be killer, I'd love it.

Don't see them being much of a draw though (ala Cheap Trick) and Journey banks on other bands drawing crowds for them. So unless there's a 3rd in the mix, won't happen.
