Just heard the new song One Love by JSS' new band, W.E.T. The song is amazing, and as I know that most people are in love with Arnel, I could not help but to wonder what Journey would be today if they let JSS be JSS and write songs like this for a Journey album. Journey would have been transformed from a Legacy Act into something more relevant.

I thought the song started off with a Separate Ways-ish guitar riff, had a Survivor-like sound and a Randy Rhoads rip-off solo at the end. In spite of all that I thought the song was pretty solid. The lyrics could have been a bit stronger too. Grade: B- or B

likely in the same, or worse, shape than they are right now. Journey + Jeff Scott Soto wasn't going to transform magically into this magnificent hybrid between the two. It was still going to be Journey. A lot of the Revelation material would be very close, if not identical to what you ended up with. That means JSS singing After All These Years as the first single.

As far as publicity goes, the reviews would be "Journey hires an 80s hairband metal singer". At least the youtube thing gets Arnel a bit of a push. Journey releasing an album with JSS would be the same as Foreigner releasing an album with Kelly Hansen---nobody cares. JSS means nothing in the US as far as the average Joe Public goes. He doesn't even have enough of a following to do a club tour. He should be huge, but he isn't. Fact of the matter is Arnel is more of a name in the US than JSS.

Don't get me wrong. JSS is a great singer, and would bring a nice addition to the songwriting, but quality and sales have ZERO in common today. End result is WET will sell about 5,000-10,000 copies in Europe. It won't get major airplay. There won't be a hit single. There likely won't even be a tour. Doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the album.

For the record, my thoughts on One Love is average to slightly above average. Basically B. Nothing "wrong", but nothing mind-blowing. JSS sounds great, song is just ok. Some of the other clips sound better. We'll see.

This isn't his Journey voice. This is his true Soto voice.And with all due respect to uncle, I think Jeff COULD nail these songs night after night. Much like he did the Journey songs 3 years ago.just like he managed to hit those yngwie notes nite after nite ,ages ago in his teens.

He might be able to pull it off live. He did pretty good with some of the Journey material (I'll Be Alright Without You, Opened the Door) that is similar. I doubt he will get a chance. WET is a project. I doubt there will be a tour. Maybe some song will surface on his solo tours, but I doubt you'll ever know what a full 80-date WET tour would do for his voice. It will never happen.

Maybe there is some resentment that he never got to record with Journey. More likely that Frontiers Records is capitalizing on his time, and offered him a set amount of money to do an "AOR album", because that's their market. 95% of these albums never get a tour anyways. Half of them aren't even recorded in the same place. In some, the band members don't even meet face to face. AOR is a very small niche market. It's just the way it is.

I've seen JSS twice during that '06 tour and thought the band sounded great and had wonderful times each time. Looking back, and as that tour went on, I felt more and more that his voice didn't fit Journey's criteria, and even though it would have worked with him at the helm, I believe it wouldn't of even came close to working out when comparing to Pineda. I think Pineda is perfect for the band today. Still, even though in the end I wasn't THAT high on JSS as lead vocalist to Journey, I would have accepted it and moved on and bought the new album and rocked out to another 7-8 shows up until this point. This has been said over 1,000 times, JSS is great, but not for Journey.

I've seen JSS twice during that '06 tour and thought the band sounded great and had wonderful times each time. Looking back, and as that tour went on, I felt more and more that his voice didn't fit Journey's criteria, and even though it would have worked with him at the helm, I believe it wouldn't of even came close to working out when comparing to Pineda. I think Pineda is perfect for the band today. Still, even though in the end I wasn't THAT high on JSS as lead vocalist to Journey, I would have accepted it and moved on and bought the new album and rocked out to another 7-8 shows up until this point. It sounds old-schoolish because it is. That's running about the same time as Sam Cooke, or just slightly after. After All the Love Is Gone is slightly better with a little more updated sound, IMO. He was active into the late 90s.

As far as Eric Martin goes, very good singer, but he'll never be one of my favorites because he always sounds like he's got the start of laryngitis-which just perpetually bugs me. No doubting his talent though.
