Songs that Remember 9/11

Since it is the anniversary of the horrific 9/11 tragedy, I got to thinking about the songs that were written in dedication to the people whose lives were forever changed and honor for those brave souls who stepped up to help others. Here's two that immediately come to my mind...

"The Rising" - Bruce Springsteen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0FP0JSvdHY

"Undivided" - Bon Jovi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wjtt0limQBw

What other songs can you think up that were inspired by the 9/11 tragedy?

It might not be about 9/11 but it sounds close enough.

O America
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEpX2BcB9As

Music: William Joseph
Words: Brendan Graham

O, America you’re calling,
I can hear you calling me:
You are calling me to be true to thee,
True to thee… I will be.

O, America no weeping,
Let me heal your wounded heart:
I will keep you in my keeping,
Till there be… a new start.

And I will answer you, and I will take your hand,
And lead you… to the sun:
And I will stand by you…do all that I can do,
And we will be… as one.

O, America I hear you,
From your prairies to the sea,
From your mountains grand, and all through this land,
You are beautiful to me.

And… O, America you’re calling,
I can hear you calling me:
You are calling me to be true to thee,
True to thee… I will be.

And I will answer you, and I will take your hand,
And lead you… to the sun:
And I will stand by you… do all that I can do,
And we will be…as one.

O, America you’re calling…
I will ever answer thee.

.

You included lyrics, love that! Any song that could apply, in addition to ones specifically written for the tragedy would be fitting.

My favorite part...

"...as soon as we could see clearly through our big black eye, man we lit up your world like the 4th of July...."

This song has always easily rivaled Alan Jackson's song for me:

Livin To Do

A message comes down... It's a warning
It's not your time, oh no it ain't but it's coming
Now what makes us think, we're here forever
When life is gone, life is gone, before you know it's over

A church in the rain... A sad congregation
An old friend I knew
When I look at the end... I understand now
I got livin' to do... There's still livin' to do

With every breath, comes deeper meaning
I don't wanna waste, I don't wanna waste, one single minute
Tears fall from the sky, angles are cryin'
They cry for those... Who don't know that they're dyin'

I wait for the sun... A chance at a new day
There's no time to lose
When I look at the end... I understand now
I got lovin' to do... There's still lovin' to do
When I look at the end... I understand now
I got lovin' to do...
Whoa...
There's still livin' to do

i'm with you, ari. i don't like the beating of the chest, i'm bigger than you, shock and awe type stuff. so many innocent lives were lost and unfortunately continue to be lost.

Christ, it's a cathartic lyric, you bleeding hearts take yourselves so seriously sometimes.
