Question for car people, lol...

Waiting for it to be towed right now, but for you car MD's, here are the symptoms:

-Starts right up and sounds just fine but won't come out of Park.
-All the warning lights are on and won't turn off, including the parking brake even when the parking break is disengaged.
-Yet other stuff won't turn on at all, like the radio, A/C, etc., even though it'll sit there running just fine.

Now the battery was just replaced after dying for pretty much no reason we could tell, the car is only 1.5 years old... any of this maybe related to that somehow? What can drain a battery besides leaving a light on, etc? Sound like a computer/electrical prob?

Obviously I'm bored passing time waiting, so any of your guesses, lol.

Poor thing....the Alernator can drain the battery if it's going bad...the intense heat is tough
on them and they don't last as long in the warmer climates!!!
Good LUCK!!!

Computer. Sorry Mel. (I could be wrong.) But I'd be looking to acquire new transportation asap.

I don't think it's the alternator, because that wouldn't explain her not being able to shift out of park, MG.

Thats what you get for buying a Toyota

There is a smal tab as saftey feature that gets pushed anytime you press the brake to allow you to shift from Park to N,R,D,,,,and my guess is somehow the tab doesnt get the signal from the brake to allow you to get the vehicle out of park.... hopefully shouldnt be a major repair...

(Best way to get all the warning lights to go away is to put smal pieces of electric tape over them) :P

It sounds liike it only has the limited features that are available when the car has been remotely started (radio won't work, can't take it out of park, other features are disabled).

Definitely a job for a high-tech mechanic.

Our car battery kept getting drained over and over and we didn't know why. It turned out to be that the tape player was broken, and even when the car was turned off, it kept trying to play the tape player. Sometimes it's something like that. A sensor or something broken that allows things to still run even when the car is turned off. It took the mechanic a week to figure it out and it really bugged him

American cars (old Chevy trucks anyway) have an ignition switch on the column under the dash. This is a mechanical/electical switch that allows electrical functions (starting, dash lights, ignition, etc) based on mechanical functions (brake pedal, steering position, shift lever, etc). This is a plastic circuit board operated by metal rods & copper contacts. If any piece of it goes out (worn) than problems very similar to yours can happen. It's about a $50 part at Auto Zone. In newer GM vehicles, it's all part of multi-function switch right behind the steering wheel. That's about a $500 part.

Btw, batteries can go bad for no apparent reason. Sometimes, especially in cheaper brands, a cell just goes bad which can disable the entire batt.

Well some of us don't need a NEW car every 2 years :P Plus, it's our "extra" car so what it plays really makes no difference :P

@D, Have you ever smelled the black one? No? ...Don't. Bad things happen to good people.

 Thanks all.

It's under warranty still, so far they think it sounds like either fuses were blown when the battery was changed, or otherwise definitely some kind of electrical problem supposedly. Should know something soon.

Thanks B   I still love our car, so there, lol. Our other one is a Toyota too and almost 7 years old and running just fine... probably because it doesn't have that fancy ass computer and electrical crap newer cars have :x  .

And hey, I like Fords too :P Have owned them before also. Survived a horrific crash in one when I was just 22, guy ran a red light and smashed right into my driver's door. The only thing I never liked about one of our Fords was when something called the harmonic balancer (?) broke and the steering wheel literally locked in place while it was being driven and would only move about an inch in either direction... not fun at all, thank goodness for the close by empty parking lot I just kind of glided into and stopped, and then almost had a heart attack  Don't ask me about the Dodge we once owned though, on it's 3rd transmission before even reaching 45,000 miles  . And don't ask my husband about a Chevy he once owned... he has all sorts of cuss words about that car

Thanks again all!

Got a diagnoses

"Main" fuse is blown. They think when the battery got changed it got "cross-jumped" and blew the main fuse. Damn electrical crap  Thanks all.
