yep, 2004 was the last time. Actually, I think 2004 might be the only time it has been performed since whenever Perry did it last (Escape tour likely). Too bad. Fun party song, and Augeri did this one really well.

That performance wasn't in a concert tour setting (SF's Bammy Awards - JC's first live show with the band) ... but highlights SP's voice in its raw and vibrato best. Quite impressive, really. Neal and Smitty shined, too. Not hard to see that the band would soon take off to the strastophere -- concert-wise.

The Deen and SA trade-off really worked well for this.
I thought it made a great show closer after LTS.
Shame that the band dropped it, along with alot of the more rare stuff, as the Detour tour went on.

The party is almost over. Wait til after Oct 2nd, after the last tour. There will be a bit of buzz for the next week about the DVD, but then this place is gonna be kind of quiet.

There is absolutely no reason why this song should not close the show EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. A great upbeat song to end things on, full of soloing opportunities for Neal, anthemic sing-along outro chorus (Party's overrrrr.... I have gone awayyyy), the obvious lyrical content signifying the end of the show etc.

One of my favorite Journey songs. Probably my favorite underperformed song.

Agreed on all counts. It's in my top 3 Journey songs along with Separate Ways and After The Fall.

Seriously, why hasn't this been closing the set on every tour since Captured? It was written to close a show! ATF's a great tune too. I always loved the pairing of ATF w/ I'll Be Alright Without You... they shoulda been on the same album together.

Agreed ... The Party's Over is a great upbeat song. SP said he wrote it at the end of the Departure tour in his hotel room in Detroit and brought it to the band during soundcheck. They played it for the first time live at that year's Bammies.
