Boyz II Men Begin Collective Campaign To Take Over Arnel Pineda’s Spot In JourneyThe harmonizers in Boyz II Men have a new all-covers album, Love, due out just in time for the holiday season, and the first single from it leaked over the weekend: It’s a super-syrupy take on “Open Arms,” the lighter-worthy ballad from arena-rockers Journey. You may notice that it sounds kind of like an American Idol audition, what with its melismas and straining and all, and there’s a good reason why: It was produced by former Journey member Randy “Dawg” Jackson, who somehow managed to modernize the circa-1982 sound of the original track, yet still make this new take on it sound as dated as a February 1998 Reader’s Digest in a dentist’s waiting room. Ah, the Idol magic is always working! Clip after the jump.

More money for Perry and Cain.
The Mariah Carey album that contained the song sold over 20 million copies.
Smokey Robinson and Daryl Hall were talking about when their songs get covered. They were like totally cool with it, "Cover and sample away".
Cha-Ching!!

I love Boys II Men but this was 'freakin' awful.

Hurt my ears to hear that...as well as the Mariah (I'm crazy) Carey version. (She is gorgeous though) ;)

I'll listen to the others on the CD and see if they do any other tracks better than this.

My suggestion.....An intro by all guys in full acapello (misspell?) with nothing but piano until the bridge would have helped.

I hate synthesized instruments and too many effects. (from any performer)

Okay jumping off soapbox now...... for the something completely different. :)

"Open Arms" will ALWAYS be the same soul-less, cheesy, suckass song ever recorded, regardless of who is singing it. Even Perry's brilliance couldn't make that an interesting song. The song sucked 25 years ago and it still sucks today!

But, yet it rouses an audiance when they play it. Hell, even the men were singing along at a recent concert.
I've seen clips where Friga looks like he's gonna cry when Arnel sings it.

because just like back in the day, it's a good way to make the girls panties come off.
I'm just saying. Sometimes though, the highs are "mooyda" on the vocal cords.
