Listening to this again tonight, I noticed that Deen hit the same high harmonics at 3:20 on Neal's solo, that Perry did here starting at 3:05. I was stunned.

That could have been it. Could have been that he didn't warm up as well as he would for a show with the GRB. Gregg usually sounds very good when he is out with his band, and he's not exactly young.

Where has Prog been to comment on Rolie's smooth, warm organ?

They should be able to adjust Deen's volume pretty easily - any sound guy worth his salt is adjusting vocal levels all night long, esp. w/ a backing vox heavy band like Journey.

Yep, Rolie did this and Anytime when The Storm toured in 1992ish as a duet with Chalfant doing the Perry parts. He still does it every now and then when Chalfant shows up. Those 2 seem to get along fairly well, and they did duets on The Storm cds also.

My guess is Rolie would do the hits in his solo shows on a regular basis if he had a tenor in the band to cover Perry. I think it's down to the fact that it's just not worth paying a tenor to come along to do 1-2 songs in a set that is primarily Santana/Solo material which Rolie can handle quite well on his own. When Chalfant's nearby though, watch out.

Wow, just wow. Best thing that's happened in a long long time! as discussed, a pity it wasn't recorded for DVD.

Good stuff...Deen's voice reminds me of Fran Cosmo (formerly of Boston). Both guys have been able to keep hitting those incredibly high notes well into their 40s and possibly beyond.
